Long long ago I started trying to rework InstallAROS to become more of a scripted engine/wizard so that it could have individual modules to configure (distribution) specific features, but like a lot of things it has been left behind by the million and one other things needing done in AROS. It would be nice to see this implemented and used, but would need someone to dedicate a bit of effort to do it right.

Absolutely. Of course, I have to thank whoever wrote the LUA/ZULU examples, because without them, I wouldn't ever modify yannick's program. But, after all, aren't examples meant to be used that way? Quote:
Yes. Although I think "Icaros Settings" would be fine in an already-installed environment, I'd prefer a graphical approach for the 1st time run script after installation. For instance you'd get something similar for GUI Choice: Quote:

I agree totally with that. I prefer a centralised but modular GUI like MUI/Zune prefs.. Quote:
I partly agree - but IMHO it is more down to -: A> bad design decisions while implementing the individual prefs (particularly 3rd party prefs) B> A lack of ability to "plugin" to the core prefs features. That is to say you cant extend the existing pref pages, but have to just keep adding new pages... .. like it or not, B> is something Microsoft (imho) have done a great job at implementing for their GUI's.

The startup sound most definitely belongs in there imho. As long as amibridge is integrated within icaros, then it would be nice to have it's settings in there as well (depending on the number of settings you eventually like to implement. Quote:
I came to the conclusion (my own personal one, that is), that i have a love-hate relation with such things. I really am dumbfounded by where all settings are scattered around. That really isn't the way to go, especially not for newbies. In that regards i like as many 'options' in one place as possible. But, on the other hand. One such program that does this is zune settings. And if there is one program that totally confuses me then it is the zune preferences program. It startled me back in the days on classic OS as well (mui prefs as it was called then )Quote:
You mean like a new and improved gui choice ? Hmz, wasn't there a requester library somewhere in the classic days that could do such thing with ease ? It could create beautiful requesters, with white checkered surrounding in the window and a bevelbox in which the text was located. Also had support for (default) graphics (like a question mark, exclamation mark, etc.) and all that. Darned if i know what it was called :S

Not really - something like "IcAROS Settings" or "IcAROS System Config" works for me.

@Kalamatee
Yes, I would too. Any opinion about the new name?

Im glad you plan to rename it - because I would prefer to see "Services" used for a proper service framework.
