If you want to play with AmigaOS 4, you'd better plan on getting a new PowerPC machine with a Radeon HD card. They don't easily work on the Classic Amiga models without a rare and expensive PPC accelerator card for A1200, A3000 or A4000.

With a V500 accelerator, you can plug a 4 GiB CF card into the IDE port of the accelerator and instantly have a cheap SSD equivalent for the A1000. The only real disadvantage of the A1000 is that if you want to run old software that requires the ECS or AGA chipsets, you're out of luck and stuck with OCS and 512K of Chip RAM max. If you want to run new stuff with a graphics card, the V500 supplies that too!

It never occurred to me that there might be local Amiga User Group meetings still going on. I lived in Arkansas for most of my life, and our last Commodore/Amiga user group died about 20 years ago. :(

But I recently transferred to Seattle for a new job. And look there, I've found three groups. Recent posts indicates at least PSCUG is still active.

I saw an Armiga a few weeks back at the local AUG meeting. It's a neat little device, but seems fairly focused on playing retro games rather than a modern computing device.

I think Vampire / Apollo is the most exciting news for the 68k Amiga world in a long time. I'm waiting for the A500 version to come out later this year.

Did you see the video of the Vampire 500 in the A1000? Looks like a straightforward install, and this would give you HDMI, CF card HD, Micro SD, 128MB and the fastest 68k CPU ever seen. Eventually these guys are planning a standalone version too.

I'm really hoping AROS can take the place of Workbench on Apollo and then the platform will be reborn.

I'd like to have both. Another original Amiga and a FPGA system. I have two A1000s and at least one worked the last time I tried. But I'd like to have something more like a 2000/3000/4000 with full hard drive and networking support. I'd like to be able to play with OS3 and OS4 as well as AROS and other variants.

I never had the funds to play with Amiga when they came out (I was a young teenager). I didn't realize there is a strong community keeping Amiga alive. So now I'm hoping to find some new toys to play with. :D

Its basically a raspberry pi, you can just get one and build it yourself.

I picked up an A2000 this week, trying to get it working. But I'd like to find a minimig or similar myself.

I took a quick look at the Vampire 500. Very interesting.

It'll probably be a couple of months before I make any purchasing decisions. Right now, I'm considering buying something "newer" than the 1000, particularly for ease of doing something like the Vampire. I'm not much of one for hacking around on cases and boards and such. (I had someone install my second SID chip, way back in the day. :)

I came across references to minimig, chameleon, fpga-arcade, mist, and MCC 216. None of those still seem to be available. And I read that at least some were not playing by the rules.

If any of those are still available, I'd like more information about them. Searching hasn't turned up anything that is still valid.

Thank you. I am very interested in a FPGA accelerator. I followed Commodore One closely soon after the announcement that Jeri was working on it. Unfortunately I was not able to get one and I lost interest in it for a while. But FPGA has come a huge way and I'm once again very interested.
