hmm, here's something interesting I just noticed when plugging the WaveLAN card into my linux laptop:

tail -f /var/log/messages

this raises (more...) questions on my side:
a) are the card's properties as shown here (firmware, encryption support, ...) determined by the hardware, or the driver software (orinoco_cs)?
b) why are there two different versions of firmware?
c) WEP 104-bit key? (compare initial post: WEP 40/128-bit key ad-hoc network)
d) "WPA-PSK supported", does that mean that this card has already been firmware-flashed-updated? (or is this a driver feature?)

any help appreciated
thanks,
ro

PCMCIA WLAN prism2.device - help needed
#1

hi,

i'm unable to connect to my WLAN(s) - maybe someone could help me...?

using linux fedora 20, i created a adhoc network:
SSID: testadhoc
mode: ad-hoc
band: automatic
security: WEP 40/128-bit key (Hex or ASCII)
key: 12345

(there's more settings here, but this is what I think is required and relevant, and IP-addresses and routing shouldn't matter right now)

I have a A1200 with WaveLAN IEEE802.11 PCMCIA card (the back of the card says: "encryption: WEP", and it has white connector edges), and prism2v2.lha (from aminet, installed).

"ENV:sys/wireless.prefs" looks like this:
network={
ssid="testadhoc"
key_mgmt=NONE
wep_key0="12345"
wep_tx_keyidx=0
}

(some more stuff here, but outcommented with "#")

on the linux machine, I select "connect to testadhoc", and looks fine so far, blue bars show connection active.

on the amiga, I run:
> WirelessManager prism2.device verbose

and this is what it says:

Initializing interface 'prism2.device:0' conf 'ENV:Sys/Wireless.prefs' driver 'default' ctrl_interface 'N/A' bridge 'N/A'
Configuration file 'ENV:Sys/Wireless.prefs' -> 'ENV:Sys/Wireless.prefs'

can someone explain what's going on?
why does it skip my "testadhoc" network?

thanks,
regards,
ro

(p.s.: next step would be to connect to my regular WLAN, possibly with WPA/WPA2 encryption, but that's a different story, I guess.)
