Why hasn't a high speed 680x0 chip ever been made? Wouldn't that have been an easier way to make a modern Amiga? I was looking at transistor counts. The 68060 has about 2.5 million. An i7 has about 1.4 billion. So over five hundred 68060s could fit into the die of a single i7 chip. With that kind of yield it should be quite a bit cheaper to produce and/or create large multi-core chips. Even if a 2GHz 68060 isn't as as fast as an i7, it seems like the cost and large multi-core potential would make up for it.
