I think I will try a mini card (instead of USB) with the rtl8187B and see if it works. $2.60 on eBay not much to part with. Thanks for the link

Well so far networking does not work at all on my laptop with AROS 2.03. I am not so interested in buying another wi-fi card and hope it works. What laptop can I buy that everything works without jurking around with some thing working and some now. Even on the desktop what works out of the box from the start. THANKS!!

Hi,

As for supported internal wifi

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_Network_support#Mini_PCI-E_pci_express_.28Laptop.29

most cards from very early Acer Aspire netbooks usually work best.

Best luck
Jeff

Thanks for the info. I will try playing with wi-fi settings and drivers. If mine does not work, what wi-fi card does, that I should install in place of the stock one?

Thanks again

Hi,

Welcome and have fun.

I am assuming your laptop is an Ivy Bridge one. Being this new means AROS native drivers are limited.

I have added your laptop here

https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Platforms/x86_Complete_System_HCL

can you give us an idea of what works or does not.

With wired networking, you could try the Realtek RTL8169 driver but being a new laptop (in AROS terms) the revision used may not be supported.

With wireless, the Atheros is not supported. You could try swapping the internal wifi card with one that is supported.

You could try hosted route if you want to try AROS out with your Dell.

Most will say the first versions of the Acer Aspire netbooks. I am liking the Lenovo X200s, although no networking options exist on this.

Good luck,
Jeff

Hello,
Hi I am new to this site and wanted to say I like AROS. I have AROS 2.0.3 on a Dell inspiron 3521. Works great (so far) but have not yet had any luck with networking. I need to find out what kind of NIC card is in the system and pick the correct driver if its there. Anyone have a similar system and some tips. What is a good laptop if mine is not so good to run AROS. As a side note I have MorphOS on a Mac and also a AmigaOne X1000 with 4.1FE and I look forward to playing around with AROS on this dell I have, if all works then it will stay. So I now have each system and look forward to enjoying the Amiga and Amiga like OS's out there and have and will continue to support them with donations. Thanks for any reply.
