A few selected drivers will be compiled with a special kernel compiler. For hosted these are the driver that have to communicate with the host, f.ex linuxpci.

Staf.

Ok thanks for making that clear Staf.

So i understand correctly that:

source OS -> Target OS
==========================
Linux i386 -> Aros-Hosted i386
Aros Native i386 -> Aros-Native i386

has completly no influence on GCC compilation ? Not even on driver level ?

No, the system on which the compiler is running does not have any influence. It depends on the compiler you are using.

If you are using i386-aros-gcc it produces code that's running on a i386 aros system. Of course if it's a driver, the driver won't work if there is no hardware for it to access. Be that because it's a hosted version or a native one missing the hardware the driver wants to talk to.

ciao

hi mazze,

do not take this to serious because i really don't know anything about gcc or c in general for that matter.

isn't it suppose to be different ?
1) gcc on aspireos generates aros native executables.
2) gcc on hosted generates hosted executables.

Although it could produce the same binairies it does not have to (i even guess it should not) because include files or linked libs produce difference(s) on aros-native vs aros-hosted ?

or am i completly talking nonsense here ?

Probably
There should not be any difference between a hosted binary or a native binary. You just have binaries for i386 or x86_64 or some other CPU and it should run on corresponding AROS version independent if that is running hosted or native.

I ran Snoopy with Lock, Open, System and Execute patches enabled. I did "gcc muiexample.c -c" on both AspireOS and aros-linux-i386-v0.

From the differences I can't figure out what's wrong.

It could be false alarm, so it would be nice if someone with current AspireOS tests gcc.
