Oh, you were talking about the openwfd? I tought you meant this minimonitor thing... :)

For the minimonitor I plan to create a gfx hidd which makes a public message port and waits on it and on Poseidon a class that spawns a library which keeps track of displays connected to it and controls them. When the library gets created it will message the gfx hidd that it has display(s) and then the gfx hidd will open the library and add display id(s) for itself.

If the minimonitor gets unplugged the library won't update anything but just returns. When a minimonitor is again plugged it will be attached to the next orphan display id or a new one is created if no orphans exist.

I haven't found yet a good candidate for the JPEG encoder (license wise) but the plan for the encoder is that only the image data is created between frames and not the whole content that JPEG has. Constants that would not change between frames or would change only by few bits and bytes are the frame prepend header and JPEG constant tables (quantization) I would need a fast MMX/SSE enabled FDCT routine (most computational stage of the encoder) There would not be a whole lot of sense to write these constant tables between frames everytime as they don't change.

Wow thanks DizzyOfCRN..

ok
i will try to find a simpler code to try myself
it seems to be quite some apps around using it!
https://github.com/esrlabs/AndroidTransporterPlayer

regards,
ps:infact i was searching a (web) player that have support, but couldnt find the link! :/
ps2: found it -https://github.com/benjipott/video.js-chromeCast (i was quite worried lost that link) :)

There's really not much worth committing. The code needs a lot more to be of any use. Protocol for sending the image to the frame is really simple and is publicly available, I only snooped the USB traffic on W7 and found out how to control the brightness and it is entirely documented in my previous post.

For this to be any use a FAST JPEG converter is needed (maybe also a fast image scaler) then the image source needs to be decided and based upon those some library coded that handles multiple of such frames and connects to the image source(s). As it is now only one static image is sent from a task spawned by Poseidon.

I'm not sure how fast the jfif(jpeg library) on Aros is encoding images, on W7 with Vista drivers the update rate is around 27Hz when NOT updating the brightness (for some reason it seems to slow refresh rate, or so I assume)

On Windows frames are contained in a 64k buffer and it is always sent to the endpoint, even if the data is less than that (rest is cleared to zero), I have not tried but I'd guess that the data sent should really only be a multiple of the endpoint max data size (=0x200) This would make the output a bit snappier if it works.

wow, that seems to be a good news!
maybe commit the code just as a sample maybe could worth it?
best regards,

My Samsung smart tv has that wi-fi thing and on Samsung it's called allshare, I believe.

I got the brightness control working.

Every JPEG send to the frame is prepend with 3 ULONGS

header[0] = 0x04095aa5
header[1] = size of the JPEG data + these 3 ULONGS (= +12)
header[2] = brightness (0-100)

Changing brightness alone does not do anything, the first ULONG needs a bit change,

header[0] = 0x05095aa5 and the brightness changes. I assume there are other interesting bits also in the header, maybe the frame can accept something else than only JPEGS?

Frames current brightness can be quaried with this:

/* Read current brightness */
psdPipeSetup(MiniMonitorDevice->minimonitorep0pipe, URTF_IN|URTF_VENDOR|URTF_DEVICE, 2, 0, 0);
ioerr = psdDoPipe(MiniMonitorDevice->minimonitorep0pipe, &MiniMonitorDevice->brightness, 1);

I'll check the Vesa driver and see how far I get butchering it for this purpose. I would have rather liked if nouveau would have made the content and then just dispatched the output via USB, but that is not possible unless using some hidden screen or am I right?

With castAR, it's two screens in a sense just with the headset because of the video projector mechanisms of the AR/VR Headset. That is in addition to whatever monitor one wants to hook up in addition to the headset. If our collaborative efforts can make this all work, it would work in all our varied configurations.
