AROS has a diskchange command? Or were you speaking hypothetically?
Thanks for the info! ![]()

There are two bootloader arguments for the floppy driver in aros that one can add on the grub commandline.
One is the "nofdc" setting, which completely disables the driver. The other is "noclick" which disables the floppy change detection thusly also removing the clicking sound. The actual reason behind the clicks are interesting. The floppy drive itself detects floppy removals/insertions, but it will for some reason only tell the floppy controller that a disk is present whenever the head of the floppy drive changes track. So in order to poll if a disk is present or not you need to move the head producing the click sound. On Amiga hardware you still have to step the head to detect changes, but someone figured out that if I place the head on cylinder 0 and try to step to cylinder -1, the drive will just ignore the command but still update the disk change stuff. In that way the noclick patches were invented. However, the PC floppy controller tries to be smart and will not actually allow me to do this. Hence the "noclick" option in grub will also disable floppy change detection so one needs to run diskchange df0: manually instead. Sad but true. Regards, Johan (Marginally insane from working with the PC floppy controller)

I had an anti-click on my Amiga too.
True Amiga experience would be to have the "ring des nibelungens" at boot. |

If you want to stop the drive clicking, there IS a solution!
Pass "nofdc" to grub before booting. (press "e" on the modeline to edit, then "b" to boot) Knowing that, there is NO floppy drive anymore. If you agree with this setting, add it to grub, editing the file: sys:boot/grub/menu.lst (save it ). |
