of course you dont! and no one would expect any individual to undestand exactly what everything involves.. however bounties that arent well thought out or are far too much work as a single task arent going to appeal to devs ... its that simple.

Couple of things, perhaps a section on AE should be created so that prespective donors can hash it out with Devs on a bounty requirements prior to submitting the formal bounty. I think that would probably be best. Sort of a filtering effect.

AE would be good to discuss bounties sure, with a relevant link from the bounty page back to the forum topic to keep things clear.

However it doesnt address the lack of "inspirational" bounties that might encourage development or sponsorship .. a kind of wish list for people TO GET ideas for starting a paid bounty.

and mixing the 2 will only lead to headaches if they exist in a single forum "channel"

My requirements for a bounty is a minimum of $5 USD, which is what, about four EUROs? If we could setup a few Europeans with paypal accounts, they could take the money and transmit it via paypal to me. Or if the Devs would like to take over the bounty system, I have no problem with that either.

There needs to be a wish list and a bug tracker that is kept up to date. How that will come about, I have no clue.

yes - we have the bug tracker whick is heavily under used lol, most users probably dont even know of it.. but the wish list is the important one. The goal is to let people (users AND devs) know whats needing done, or wanted done. Also it would help to be able to see what suggested bounties would really get aros going (the core syetm) as opposed to feature/app requests that arent really necessary but would be nice...

However, another problem is a lot of the bounties are more suited to being replaced with a number of "smaller" and more do-able bounties.

Finally, Some of the bounties descriptions leave a lot to be desired.

Well, firstly i think there should be a seperation of bounties into "Bounty Suggestions" (which have no donors) and "Live Bounties" (which do have donors).

I would further categorise the bounties themselves into ones that are fundemental to the working of AROS, ones which would be very desired, and finally ones that are just a thought, or someones personal desire ..

The next thing to do would be change how bounties are created.

People should be open to submit bounty suggestions without needing to actually sponsor it. The fact the bounty is visible may (indeed is likely) encourage others to sponsor it.

Having a broader choice of bounties is better for both users wishing to sponsor, and devs looking for something they can do imo - it could even become the defacto list of work needing done on aros.

When someone wishes to sponsor a bounty, the bounties requirements should be brought to the table. A number of devs who do work related to the bounty should be approached, and the possiblity of the design goals discussed.

I agree that the bounty system is not perfect as it is now and i really do wish damy would open up for people starting bountys without having to throw cash into it.

Ive been wondering on Damos bounty system for a while since I dont feel it really does its job the best it can..

Particularly in the choice of bounties for possible donors.

However, another problem is a lot of the bounties are more suited to being replaced with a number of "smaller" and more do-able bounties.

Finally, Some of the bounties descriptions leave a lot to be desired.

So what do i propose?

Well, firstly i think there should be a seperation of bounties into "Bounty Suggestions" (which have no donors) and "Live Bounties" (which do have donors).

I would further categorise the bounties themselves into ones that are fundemental to the working of AROS, ones which would be very desired, and finally ones that are just a thought, or someones personal desire ..

When someone wishes to sponsor a bounty, the bounties requirements should be brought to the table. A number of devs who do work related to the bounty should be approached, and the possiblity of the design goals discussed.

of course all this would require a bit of work im sure, especally with regards to the site itself (any php coders out there interested ??) but in the long run it could prove benefitial to the users and devs alike ...

anyhow ... what are everyone elses opinions??
