That is a helpful posting. I haven't gotten that method to work yet, but I suspect that it's me at fault. While I was following Olivier's instructions, I discovered why the "Save" button in the hdtb was always ghosted . It was because I hadn't changed anything, so there was nothing to save . It's been too long since I've run Amiga system software and I'm afraid I've forgotten even the basics. I'm relearning.

Thanks for your suggestion, I'm sure Olivier's posting will be the solution once I get a grip on it.

take a look at olivier`s post about multiboot.

you can partion the drive use a partition tool....like qparted (selecting the size)...and then use hdtoolbox...and use the instaler (without the partition and format option).

Thanks for the quick response. I tried going back up the levels in hdtb, but the Save button remained ghosted at all levels. Maybe I should re-install with a newer cd image and try again.

It would be easier if I could just control the installer's default partition size. I was wondering if that could be adjusted by editing a configuration file or if that is hard coded into the installer.

The last time I installed AROS I let the installer create the partition. From reading other postings, I'm thinking that it might be wiser to create the partition using hdtb and then use the installer to install the system. But then I would need a working hdtb, which I don't seem to have at this time.

Anyone out there ever tried that?

I'd really like to here from others who have installed AROS to a hard drive, especially successful installations .

I will try and help as best i can, but just now im limited since i havent got my aros systems back online.

I think your problem with the icon being ghosted is because your at the wrong level to save the info.

Go back up to the drive itself or perhaps its partition table - cant remember which of hand - and you should be able to then save your changes.

As for adjusting the size - im not persoanlly aware of any such apps but im sure if there are someone will correct me =)

It would be nice to see some utilities with similar functionality - but to be honest i think work on the filesystem, and support for other filesystems should take precidence.

I just installed AROS to a Dell C600 with a 20 gig drive using the nightly CD image. The installer setup a 5 gig partition by default. I was thinking that 1 or 2 gig would be enough at this point in AROS developement. However, I was unable to resize this partition from within AROS with the HD Tool (the save button was ghosted out).

Does anyone know of a way for a user to control the initial size of this install partition? Or if not, are there utilities that can resize it?
