You can even build a hosted version of AROS for Linux.
It's much, much easier to test programs to see if they run correctly and no worries if they crash, alter and start the hosted again... You can get the debugs on the shell/terminal if AROSBootstrap is started from one.

Hi,
I've never tried to compile anything natively, I have always used Linux. oGALAXYo has made a neat script that builds everything on Fedora installation (you could adjust the script to only build the base set, results in some 100mbytes iso file) At this point the script builds inside the source tree, which is kinda bad... Running the script may take a lot of time, on my machine the full build took some 2 to 3 hours. Then again my machine has a lot of computing power and memory, but slow hard drives... Once you get it to build you can use the AROS build system to make anything you want. It doesn't have to build all the way, just that the base set gets build enough...

Okay, more advices needed: I installed full Live!, but still problems with compiling natively. Even common "configure" process freezes completely, seems to be in endless loop. I use 'sh' for compiling gcc stuff, so perhaps I need some flags for starting.
Any tips for configure/make flags for 1. native compiling 2. cross-compiling with Linux I would like to do natively, but in this point I am willing to accept any solution :) ! Thanks !!

Hi,
thanks of replies, I got sox yesterday, version 12.7.3, which is too old for my purposes, lacks quite many features I need. I installed bunch of native GCC/binutils packages to Aros, almost got SoX compiled, did all .o files, but got problems at the end, when linking the final sox binary. I also tested cross compiling, both on Linux and mingw32, but that needs more work. I have done lots of compiling in Linux world, so that's not a problem, all files/paths/etc seem OK, but one thing might be that I was compiling even older version of SoX I found as binary. I will do full Live! installation next, before that trying to compile newer version, let's see, thanks of the help, let's see what happens :) !

personally, if i was to compile for aros, whatever target, id refrain from doing it natively, id use aros build system and cross compile from linux. i may be biased, but even though im all for native compilation, i think this i the most convenient for now.

That is a question which usually requires a very broad answer in order to touch all aspects on what you have in mind with the question to begin with ![]() Learn how to use the AROS buildsystem, i guess ? More information can be found on the developer docs pages and the AROS website, subsection developers. But i guess if you've been following AROS for some time then you'd already know that ![]() Just do, run into troubles, try to solve those and learn ![]() Personally i've followed AROS for a couple of years before going public and that suited me well in the end. my problem was just starting things up. Even though i've read so much documentation beforehand i wasn't at all prepared and had to figure things out as i went along. Especially the c compiler throws me off and in case AROS specific i can search the forums and in case nothing was found i can post here on the forums or on the developers mailinglist to get some help. But of course i also ran into a shiteload of generic compiler/build issues that can usually solved by using some google-fu. There'e also the aros irc channel on freenode although that seems to have gone a bit silent as well lately (that plus the recent spamming last couple of months doesn't help). Last but not least just use the tools that you're most familiar with and make a good development environment for yourself and don' forget to backup regularly ![]()

Take a look at the wikibook hardware support for networking. Nikolaos has a nice page on his aspireos website about a specific usb dongle, but that page seems MIA. @nikolaos: Did you remove the USB wifi dongle page ?
