I wonder if the best form of arix would be, as someone mentioned earlier in a different thread, is to port X11 to aros.

Try installing updated kms drivers in your Linux kernel, plus if you?re bored update the alsa driver from AROS. ;) I?ll look later I have the scripts to make the eth.device work proper also.

AMD FX 9370, 32 Gigs Ram, Radeon RX 480.(Might be a slight overkill for AROS) :)

currently arix doesnt make an impression that it would provide better hardware compatibility than native aros on x86 or linux hosted. there aint developers left who would help with it. considering professional feedback i have received i tend to refrain from it, especially that im not skilled enough and i have already a lot to do, i mostly do not even achieve.

sorry for bothering.

It could very well be the best possible future for Amiga like OS. Sad it never went to the public.

if you want to update it well, it will be the user who chooses which system to use, I am very satisfied with what I use because and as if I used an amiga with the old workbench

I'm interested in this.

If I try to imagine a hypothetical new generation "Amiga" OS, I struggle to imagine building a kernel from scratch and having to support a sea of device drivers. Maybe we would be better served by focusing efforts on an Amiga-like experience (a new generation of dev friendly APIs better than fossil POSIX, pluggable datatypes, bleeding edge UI) on a rock-solid SMP kernel with mainstream hardware support already baked in.

Something that could run Firefox in one Window and an Amiga 3.x MUI program in another with a common look and feel.

I know this wouldn't be an Amiga to some and I don't want to derail this threads with what-ifs.

arix natively supports more cpu, there would be no driver problems, you could install comfortably on modern PCs without problems and all the software written now would run smoothly, certainly could be a choice for some users, I personally would try it

i have compiled arix from its latest branch (2015). it is a bit outdated but it works in my vmware player.

what is the public opinion about it? do you think it viable or useful to try to put it up to date with the current aros source?

Absolutely! The least it can help is that it attracts some devs who have their interest in linux, but is also has potential to be completed and updated

Does arix use a linux kernel for drivers?
