If you read that article, that's the result of the re-examination to reject the already granted patents. As I said, they had to get the bogus patents overturned. Follow the initiated link in the second sentence of that article.

Actually, M$ applied for a patent for FAT32 and was eventually rejected.

MS used to have some patents on FAT, but when MS tried to enforce them on camera/usb drive companies, the companies fought back and got MS's patents tossed out.

I think FAT would be good to have so that cameras and usb sticks will be readable in AROS. However, there's no hurry as we don't have USB yet. Once USB gets implemented, there will be an increased need for FAT.

M$ doesn't own FAT32, and the need for FAT32 is still there (especially when dealing with digital cameras). It's just left my high priority objectives for AROS. I expect to see it eventually, whenever Adam has the spare time to the project.

well done dammy, fat32 sucks, who need to support micro$oft and their shit anyway ?
there's emulators for this.
aros need to focus on real filesystems ;) for its own use. sfs would look nice..

keep up the good work

I can see how fat32 may not be a priority right now, but i wouldnt dismiss fat32 as useless though. I have several usb pens and sd cards and things with fat32 volumes on them. With fat 32 i can share data between palmos/WindowsMobile/ms Windows/Macintosh/ and the gumstix embedded platform.

This makes it really simple for sharing data. If i could just mount a fat32 volume in aros, it would make my life much much easier. Right now i have to move data in and out of the system via serial port.

Maybe this isnt an issue for thoes with hosted environments...

FAT32 was cancelled as I (BTTC) no longer needed it and it's been attempted twice, and went no where. I've moved the bounty money to two other projects that I think would be the biggest bang:buck ratio for AROS. Namely, SFS support so we can dump AFFS and open the door into the x86-64 world.

Before you think it's out of reach, for $445 USD, you can buy this.

Kinda makes those equally expensive G4 mobo look pretty wilted, doesn't it?

IMO it's importat to have fat32 support, but it's a necessity to have a native file system more efficient
