In principle this is up to us as community. p2p has some say in this as well afaik as they are responsible for the financial part.

Meaning that if you think that the assigned project failed (because it did not reach the deadline) you are more than free to suggest to declare them as failure.

The problem there (or actually the question) is: do we/you really want to ?

The animation.datatype was more or less implemented by kalamatee, and we know all what happened (still happening ?) there.

The scalos port is a continues work done by mazze. If he has the time he will continue/improve.

The zune fixing is more or less a similar story as above. Neil is steadily (but yes, slowly) improving and bug-fixing.

If any of the people that donated feel that their money is not well spend they can contact p2p or ask here to see what could be done.

None of the 'open' projects have been 'claimed' as finished by the person assigned to the project. We will read that here if a developer or p2p asks for reviewing the project (or parts thereof).

I think you just send an e-mail telling them which project you are interested in doing. At least that is how I got assigned to the AROS FUSE bounty.

after quite some time I took a look at power2people.org

all assigned projects' deadlines are expired (some by years).
does anyone look after this?

and - just out of curiosity - how do I pick up a project?
