sorry for the delay as i seem tio have missed your latest reply :-S

I couldn't find sox from Live! full edition,

That would be very strange.

Just in case you've missed it: are you aware that the Live DVD is filled with packages that contain all available titles. Those packages are basically compressed archives that need to be unpacked first in case you would want to extract a single software title from it.

Having said that, i also noted that sox is part of contrib (at least the AROS source-tree contains a diff file) so it should be there (unless it is not compiled anymore for whatever reason during build) so either Icaros DVD or a copy of contrib should contain sox (*)

(*) i would check for you if i could, but i'm in no way able to do this check for you as i'm basically computerless atm.

I am now considering native compiling with Aros, but I assume Light doesn't contain all needed, I need full Live!. Is that correct ?

That is correct.

Icaros light version does not contain the development package whilst the full DVD version does. Same principle applies: it is present in a package (the development package) and that would need to be installed during setup/installation of Icaros.

It would be tiresome to extract and set it up manually (although not imposible) because the development package requires a few additional paths and other settings (dependencies and such). The Icaros installation script does that automatically for you.

Or is there dev set for gcc/binutils/make etc somewhere, to add to the Light.

You could do that if wanted, but i would vote against it (for reasons mentioned above) especially if you're a new to the (AROS/Amiga) game.

Just remember to enter sh before attempting to compile something as that is a linux compatible shell which is required for most compilation.

serk118uk ported sox to aros some time ago, see also this news-post.

Unfortunately the link there does not work anymore as serk118uk's site went down some time ago.

In theory everything published should be available on the icaros DVD, but i do not know for sure if it's there. If not then ask someone on the forums if there is a copy floating around or ask serk118uk yourself (he is a member here on the forums).

Hi all,

Well, I have known about Aros years, installed it some machine few years ago, nightly snapshot, and yesterday decided to make new start. I have a bunch of old laptops, and I managed to install Icaros Desktop Light and AspireOS 2.0 to four different laptops, all seem to work, for me most important part is sound, all fine in each of them.

I will be working more with one of them, running Asus eeePC RX11C, with Icaros Light, I also need some Linux/Unix binaries which it already contain, Protrekkr is nice add, and need Protracker at some point. Mostly, I haven't used Icaros (or Amiga), so need to learn to use it properly.

Anyway, doing cross-compiling, I would need Sox audio utility, can't find it Aros archives or elsewhere, so perhaps could compile it myself. Icaros recognize most USB sticks, which makes transfering stuff easy.

So, my questions, tips:

1. Sox audio utility (binary, cross-compiling) ?
2. Cross-compiling tips
3. RT/L wireless USB dongles, that Aros supports ?

Thanks, sorry of the long text, probably also posted wrong place, not sure :)
