Re: For brave people only: new Icaros Desktop WIP

I encountered a bug in Opus 5 Magellan... when I selet a zip file from my NAS Server and select with right klick "Copy to .. RAM:" the file gets processed but at the end the file cannoz be found in RAM: I have to use PoorARC to unzip files!

My Wireless Problems were because of misconfiguration of the Router!

Sound works fine for Samsung RP60!

Sounds good - I'll download and try at the weekend.

Cheers,
Nigel.

A new version is now available for download.

For a list of fixes and improvements, please refer to the first post.

I've zipped that with a different archiver now, so people encountering extraction issues with initial release, should get now a more friendly zip file to decompress.

@paolone:

I tried your live experimental looks ok to me, but could you please replace the two config files for the FP-IDE (I will include them in my future releases also)

https://home.alb42.de/fpc-cfgfiles.tar.gz

in the archive are two files "fp.ini" and "fp.cfg"
both should be copied to sys:Extras/development/Languages/fpc/bin/i386-aros
(at least the fp.cfg should exist already, just replace it)

After install of this two files direct compilation from the IDE is possible and the two AROS related examples files are set as "Recent files"

Thanks!

I confirm, I spoke of these errors HERE

VICE x64 crashes with an "Illegal instruction" Software Failure if I simply open and quit it.

Extras/Misc/fish/microemacs behaves very strange.
If started from wanderer it seems like the home key is stuck because every letter I type appears on the top left.
If I start it from CLI I can type normally.
No matter if started from CLI or Wanderer the window content flickers. Pressing Control X + Control C does not exit but opens a new CLI because the key sequence is not detected correctly. So only Ctrl+C is detected which is the key sequence to open a CLI.

I did also try reducing the memory, disabling all hardware acceleration and switch the "paravirtualvisation" to "legacy" but this has no affect. AROS seems simply to be a bit slower.

I've tested the Icaros image today on my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010.

- I do have the same issue with the rexx script.

- Additionally I do get an "Memory header not located" Software Failure from amistart if I do minimize an application to amistart and reopen it. No matter which application or wanderer window. (I am using wanderer instead of opus)

- Additionally I am not able to open a screenmode that fits my screen 1280x800.
With all "normal" screenmodes like "1024x768" or "800x600" parts of the screen to the right and bottom are invisible.
If I use vesa=1024x600 all parts of the screen are visible but it looks like 800x600.
With the old version of Icaros installed on the same computer it works fine.

edit: forgot to mention that I am using it in VirtualBox 5.0.14 and not directly on the MBP hardware.

edit 2:
VBoxManage setextradata "AROS Icaros Experimental Jan 2016" "CustomVideoMode1" "1280x800x32"
Solves the screenmode issue. Only with vesa=32bit (default boot option) parts of the screen (right and bottom) are not visible.

So, I've just tried the latest nightly (20160123) with QEMU under Windows XP with the rexx program, with exactly the same error. However, the version of QEMU I'm using is from an older copy of Icaros live and has version number 0.10.50 - is this too old?

Cheers,
Nigel.

Edit: Just to be clear, this is ABI0.

Edit2: The original error report was for my Samsung nebook. I've just tried on my desktop Intel Core 2. The new Icaros WIP gave exactly the same error as the Samsung, but the nightly just gave no output at all - no 'list' and no error message. Strange...

Hi Neil,
That is strange... Tomorrow I'm going to download the latest nightly, try the exercise again, and report back.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

Unfortunately, I still can't reproduce the crash. Because this is quite weird, I'll list the steps I took in mind-numbing detail:

1. Booted the latest Icaros test ISO in Q (QEmu for Mac).
2. Opened the text editor from the AmiStart dock.
3. Typed in the script as you described.
4. Saved it as T:f.rexx.
5. Opened a shell from the Icaros menu of DOpus5.
6. CD T:
7. rexx f.rexx
8. The output is the normal output of C:List.
