I'm a little concerned about your way to set up things. Have you only manually copied Icaros live files onto your AROS hosted directory? This way, Icaros will NEVER work as designed, sorry. Icaros installation procedure launches a post-install script which also deploys many internal directories, launches other procedures that create ASSIGNs and other system stuff. Please check what post-install script and S: scripts do and try to replicate manually. If you prefer, you can install on a native system using a SINGLE dh0 partition, boot up again with the DVD, and tar to multiple archives, in order to extract everything correctly to your Linux drive.

No, I don't want to install it anywhere. I just want to experiment with hosted system.
I just think that using the full filesystem of an installed Icaros instead of just the live cd's filesystem, might be better. There are some things eg while using m68k and other emulated staff that refuse to start because they think they are started from a protected media, like a dvd. That is my only concern. So, I plan to copy the complete filesystem from my installed Icaros desktop and then start over the procedure and use that as hosted.

I didn't get a chance to setup networking last night.
Are you wanting to install the LiveCD under Linux or on hardware? An install of the LiveCD works fine under virtualbox. I have an old laptop that doesn't support USB booting and I couldn't find the old cd drive for it so I pulled the hdd from the laptop and stuck in a USB enclosure then extracted a virtualbox install and dd'ed it to the hdd and stuck it back in.

@magorium
Yeah, that's true... It's easy to forget one detail while looking for another on these pages! Now, while having live cd contents hosted is still great, my next step would be to have a complete setup hosted as if it was installed. Some actions do not like live cd, e.g. importing Amiga Forever files. I think, just copying the whole contents of an installed system and then proceeding to the same steps as if it were the live cd, should be my first try...

No problem @dimfil. I'm glad you where able to sort things out.
One could even read every page in here, but still get lost as it is a fairly big thread with loads of pointers ![]() Indeed the icaros network preferences program is perhaps a bit spartanic in comparison to modern OS' or even overwhelming for those unfamiliar with amiga/aros GUI's, but everything is explained in the icaros desktop manual (present on the cd/dvd). The most difficult part imo is setting up your hosted configuration so that everything works for AROS/Icaros. Happy aros-ing ! ![]()

Silly me...!!! This is happening when trying to do things while tired...!!!
Of course I had to ADD the tap.device in Network Preferences Panel of Icaros and then SAVE to have it available... Everything worked great by using 8.8.8.8 as primary and secondary DNS server. Thanks magorium for answering. I checked with the settings from your link and it is working OK with DNS settings from there too... Great thread my friends! Of course all the answers are here, I just had to be more carefull to find them!

Your boot script should contain something like this for settign up the network. afaik you shouldn't edit your AROS configuration files manually, but instead use AROS network prefs, and configure as printed out by the boot script. Quote:
That contradicts the earlier made statement "the tap.device is in devs:networks". So is, or isn't it actually present ? Quote:
The above message means that the device failed to open, ergo something is amiss with your configuration ![]()

I have already read almost all of the previous pages in detail, and I can't find my mistake...
I created the bootaros.sh script, the tap.device is in devs:networks and in the interfaces file of AROSTCP/db I uncommented the corresponding line for the tap.device as eth0. When executing the script, I get the message "[AROSTCP] OpenDevice: Device or unit failed to open" and I do not have the tap.device available in Network settings of Icaros. So, no network at the moment... I cannot find my mistake and any help at this point would be invaluable. What could the above message mean, and what should I be looking for? Thanks in advance...
