Thank you for you answer. I am currently working with keyboard.device and it seems to work the way i need it.

You can read keyboard input at several different levels of abstraction. The most appropriate way to do it depends on the type of program you're writing. You may want to look at input.device and keyboard.device. Here's information on input.device:http://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/Input_Device

You may also find it useful to search and/or post on general Amiga forums such as amiga.org.

it seems to fit but i have not tried yet.

it seems the keyboard device will do the job if i send an IORequest with KBD_READMATRIX

is there something simpler?

... and another question ...
how do i get the status of the keyboard/joystick in aros? i need info when a key was pressed and released. i had a look at lowlevel.library and found this example:
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Aros/Developer/Docs/Libraries/LowLevel
it compiles but it does nothing. probably because its it not implemented in aros-linux-hosted
http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/developers/autodocs/lowlevel.php#readjoyport
likewise
http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/developers/autodocs/lowlevel.php#getkey
is not there yet.

what do i miss?
it must be there. how would games work if not by getting the status of the keyboard?
