Bump, hehe :)
Pegasos2 (or SAM) profile for Qemu, to run OS4 better than it does currently under FS-UAE with Qemu plugins.

Or you could do both. Allow the demo to run on an opensource version and Have the licensed version only run on the closed source version. Just base it off a bsd lic'd emulator. ;) http://code.google.com/p/pemu/ oops no source available yet. Tho I'm sure I could if I spend the time find one. :)

MOS team will switch to x86_64 eventually...
Anyway. I was skeptical about this project from the beginning but actually running OS4 on cheap i3/i5 laptop (on top of emulator/linux) would be ubercool! So is it possible at all?

Right but the emulator fetches it only if there is anything to fetch. No code to fetch, no code to see, no code to send to virtual MOS, no joy in MOS.... or more precisely no installation of MOS. This implies that a special MOS version which includes needed drivers to be used in the emulation couldn't be installed at all. So no live mode with the "MOS CD". The installation itself would run native using the same security mechanism..
So 1000% more secure than what TeamMorphOS is using right now.

The emulator needs access to the information because it obviously must pass it to the OS instance. There is your weak link.

Well the work to make it running in an emulation is still less than porting it to x86... no PPC app existing would run on it. So you would need again a emulator.
Providing the emulator would take roughly one week fulltime. The most work would be the changes on MorphOS itself. But it would not be that much work compared to G5 port. PC HW is getting faster and faster which compensates the emulation speed loss compared to the existing PPC HW. If I would be interested in a x86 version I would not port MOS. I would use a wrapper to run MOS apps on AROS and AROS PPC as qemu-usermode target. Less money needed. But this solution would again work on more PC's I "personally" would like in a closed project. A MOS port to x86 would be just another AROS. No need for this. You would throw away all work done on PPC platform..

Whilst this is an ambitious project it would have the side effect to close morphos in a prisoner camp called retro emulation. I think morphos has all the right cards to be natively ported to x86 and become a serious player. Emulation wouldn't bring developers but other hobbists. Hobbists pay good money but don't let the platform grow.
edit: emulation is no simple task. Translating a ppc machine on an x86 one is not easier than porting a ppc os to an x86 one. Boot: you have to write the virtual boot routines. Drivers: you have to write the driver interfaces. Cpu: every single ppc instruction must be passed to x86 one. And so on... If you'd finance a morphos port to x86 (with exclusive rights to you, hw dongle or whatever protection), the day after i'd be one of your customer with an ares-morphos in my house.

who is talking about a key in a bootloader? i am talking about a integrated hw dongle on my boards. to fake something you would need to know it.

I am afraid this does not address the issue that Senex pointed out in any way. Any emulated instance of MorphOS would communicate through an open-source emulator which could be modified to fake whatever key is embedded outside of the emulation environment. This is an obvious conceptual flaw which is not addressed by putting keys into a bootloader or having a native installer.
