Bounty will be completed when these functionalites are available in Workbook:

* Support standard .info files
* Manually position & snapshot icons and windows
* List-view
* Drag & drop icons to copy/move
* Make new directories
* Delete files & directories
* View/edit file information/tooltypes
* Leave out/put away

Not sure what "Support standard .info files" means? Aren't those already supported by icon.library?

At a first glance and in my humble opinion, those parts are (each) actually really a few lines of code to add to Workbook:
- snapshot icons and windows
- copy/move files represented by icons
- leave out/put away
[To be useful, the three previous ones need that icons can be graphically moved on the screen with the mouse (ie drag & drop), which is a lot more code to implement]
- make new directory
- delete files and directories
- rename files and directories (to be added to the bounty)

So at the end of the day and if I'm correct, the most important work needed by the bounty in its current state is:
- support graphical move of the icons on the screen (graphical part of drag & drop)
- implement list view (not sure if we don't have already got some code of that kind in some GadTools example somewhere)

About "View/edit file information/tooltypes": currently this already works in Workbook as long as the corresponding tools from Wanderer are installed in the system, and as long as Zune is also present. So as I understand it, the bounty means that such a tool needs to be implemented in the Gadtools way... correct? If so, this is quite a few lines of code to implement too, but still doable.

Everyone knew it was impossible. Along came a fool who did not know and he did it.

there is not much confusion :)

About confusion: In fact it isn?t (if you are willing to learn a little bit about AROS and understand it?s OpenSource-nature), but you know the comments on other forums: People from "outside" or other "camps" are often confused (maybe they can?t handel to much freedom, I don?t know...)

Magellan is fine, but like on AmigaOS it?s an addition or replacement of the original (which is Workbench) - more features, but less performant. Like Pascal (and like on AmigaOS) I prefer the original - which is Wanderer for me.

Magellan may be the deafult-desktop on Icaros Desktop, but in fact you have the choice between Wanderer, Workbook and Magelan in preferences. And as I understand it right, on ARIX (the distribution) you will have Wanderer (2.0) as default desktop, too. So only AROS Vision is using Magellan as default AND only desktop at the moment.

Why put energy and time to develop Workbook to become more usable
(and still minimalistic) instead of make a stripped down, minimalistic version of Wanderer (and fix bugs)? In this way Wanderer-development will benefit in general and for all platforms (x86, 68k and ARM).

Just my opinion: Wanderer is for me the face of AROS and should be the main-focus in this aspect. Many people from the "outside" are already confused with different AROS-Distros running on different CPU-architectures, we should?t make it more confusing by adding different GUIs. Just my two cents of course...

I have no issue with people using a workbench replacement of choice - but I agree that Wanderer is (and always should be) the "de facto" for AROS, as Workbench itself was on AmigaOS. Distro maintainers are still of course totally free to decide what they use, but I find a lot of this discussions detract from getting AROS developed in favour of someone's preferred 3rd part Application - and certainly don't help motivate.

Exact my opinion. BTW: Keep on your good work on Wanderer, I can?t wait to see Wanderer 2.0 (hopefully on top of the ARIX-kernel)!

If a user wants a replacement, he can install it.
Wanderer is used in aros (nightlies).

Whatever... antonP nailed it.
Instead of opening a new project why not support and work on what we have.

Oops, I renamed you to Paolo, sorry! (Just corrected my post).

@phoenixconsole - go ahead, good luck :)

Btw - those may look like MWB icons, but they are really OS3.5+ type "colour icons".

IMHO there's merit in making the few small additions suggested to Workbook to make it more useful on basic m68k hardware. It also doesn't sound like it would be a huge amount of work or increase the size very much. On the other hand, Wanderer will probably always be larger, being MUI based.

hmm.. Why don't just scale down png icons and reduce colors ...
Trust me it will free up a lot of ram.
Don't use any theme!!!
And you are done (now)...

No critic but if you would try you would see that you can reduce the ram and CPU need drastically.

Just using always a alternative and pointing to it as solution is contra productive...

Now I am somehow motivated to proof it : )

I welcome a less buggy and more functional Workbook, I will be satisfied when AROS can comfortably replace OS 3.9 on my Minimig ;)

The reason that Workbook was created was for the Kickstart replacement bounty. It needed to fit in the AROS ROM. Present versions of Wanderer are neither small enough nor completely ROM residentable, AFAIK. If Kalamatee's Wanderer enhancement slims down enough to meet the criteria, it would make a Workbook bounty unnecessary.
