oggi in xp mi ha letto il dvd aroslivecd quindi il dvd ? ok

Problem located

As far as i know USB 1.0 is not able to boot CD-Rom Discs. You would need at least USB 1.1 in order to be able to boot from a CD-ROM disc.

Because your Laptop is older: can i assume it still has a floppy drive (diskette) ?

If your laptop indeed has a floppy-drive then you could try with creating a special AROS boot floppy.

You can then boot from that floppy and attempt to boot the CD-Rom.

The floppy image that is required can be found on the Nightly Download Page of AROS ->http://aros.sourceforge.net/nightly.php

The file you would be needing is named: pc-i386-boot-floppy.

This file can be downloaded and then use a program like WinImage to actually write the data to the floppy-drive.

If you require further help with this process then please feel free to ask for help.

I just can not guarantee to have (all) the answers, as it has been a long time ago when i created floppy-disks this way

I do believe you would at least need a 2.88 mb size floppy disk (and a floppy drive that can read such a floppy).

si,il dvd non fa il boot nel drive usb e nemmeno nel drive ide interno..nel drive interno non viene letto nemmeno in xp

I can only guess here.

It really has been a long time that i used USB 1.0.

If i remember correctly then USB 1.0 had a few flaws, including some limitations. One of these (if not mistaken) is that only CD-Rom disc (also that were written) with 1x speed could be read correctly.

Maybe you wrote the CD-Rom on a higher speed ?

Because you were so kind to mention your USB version number that is available on your laptop, this can be explained: AROS indeed never boots. Which is what you concluded yourself as well

See above. To my knowledge USB 1.0 can not boot a CD-Rom disc. That is to say: not without help.

Thank you for having taken the time to respond and giving us such detailed answers. That helped us locate the problem :thumbs up:

Are you absolutely sure about that ?

si certo :)

Sometimes AROS has some problems with USB.

Usually these problems can be 'solved' with following the instructions on the second link i posted.

I will repeat / verify some of the things, that i mentioned in that second link:
1 - what kind of USB (version number) does your computer has ?

2 - Are you sure the CD-Rom disc does not boot at all ? How do you know for sure ? does your OS installed on the internal HD boot instead, or does the computer 'hang' ?

3 - Is there something to see on your screen when attempting to boot from the USB CD-Rom drive ? (can be very quickly, but please mention it in case it does)

4 - Are you absolutely positively sure you have no other USB devices attached when attempting to boot ?
(this includes keyboard, mouse, lamps, ventilators, and absolutely no hubs).

si,l'unica periferica usb ? il cddrive

5 - Have you tried to attach your CD-Rom drive to another USB header ? (just plug it into another USB port, also those ports on odd places for example at the back and/or at the sides.

ho provato le due porte presenti..

There are many more questions that i could ask or suggestion i could make, but i think if you could answer some of the questions asked above that we perhaps could determine more precisely what could be going wrong in your case.

(if possible follow the instruction i made on the second link that i posted earlier, and please feel free to mention anything related. Literally everything that you are able to tell us could be of help)

thanks for your patience and for reporting back

Yes, indeed

Unfortunately, experiences from the past have learned us that rather sooner than later, google translate is going to mess things up for us

Some conclusions on my side:
1) If you used the same physical CD-Rom disc for installing to your VM then we can assume the CD-Rom disc was burned correctly.
2) Windows XP has its own set of USB drivers, just as AROS has its own set of USB drivers.

Hi ken74,

First of all, sorry for using the english language (i really can't write italian).

Secondly, Welcome to the AROS forums

Sorry to hear you run into problems booting AROS from CD-rom/DVD, while it works for you in a virtual machine.

Maybe you can try translate this and/or this message ?

Both messages combined should be able to provide a solution that works for you.

In case it doesn't and/or you have further questions then feel free to ask.

In case English is too difficult then please feel free to wait for a reply of an italian speaker (either to help you directly or help translate the messages i linked to).

salve,

ciao e grazie
