I just seem to remember something that might be amiss

I seem to remember that AspireOS used a very short grub timeout, in which case it would start trying to use the native graphics driver.

If that would fail, it would fall back, most probably to vga mode. Which means at least no sata and no usb support (i do think network is active then, but i might be wrong about that).

If that is the case, make sure you change the grub settings (sys:boot/grub/grub.cfg)
original:
Quote:
# Timeout for menu
set timeout=1

into
Quote:
# Timeout for menu
set timeout=10

And next time you boot aspireOS, select the grub entry named:
Quote:
AROS (true colour VESA graphics)

If that's indeed the 'problem' then this grub options can be booted permanently by changing the grub menu accordingly.

e.g. change:
Quote:
set default=0

into
Quote:
set default=1

If that's indeed solving things, then i am terribly sorry i did not spot that earlier. Usually when this happens, the first thing that people complain about is the distorted graphics (only 16 colours) and AROS being slow as a snail.

@phoenixkonsole:

thanks for the input :appreciated:

according to this post from topic starter he replied the following to my questions:
Quote:

- What network controller was used for the AROS VM ?

All AROS VM use in VB PCnet-PCI II in NAT mode

- What network controller did you configure in AROS ?

All AROS installations use "pcnet.device" as network controller.

Which afaik, is also what you suggested, and correspond with my own settings. As that works for us, i can only guess something else is amiss. I just don't have any idea what that amiss could be.
(e.g. assuming pcnet.device was a typo from topic starter).

Icaros uses pcnet32 device by default which is the default emulated nic in vb.

Aspireos is precinfigured for a aspire so a different device is setup by default.

Change the network device to pcnet32 and bam!

There's no need to be sorry about anything.

First of all, your english seems good enough to me (i had difficulty with online translation services that made a complete messof things).

Secondly, it was i who took the liberty to respond to a question in a language that i do not understand.

Practice has proven, there is always a way to communicate in a way so that we can understand eachother

But, for AspireOS problems, I will try to rewrite in another mode.

Thanks, as it made things more clear

1 - AspireOS don't see any net card emulated from VB so AspireOS can't fly on the net ! Any idea ?

As shown in the picture i showed, it works fine for me.

That + the fact that you got things working with Icaros Desktop, makes me wonder why it fails for you with AspireOS.

I use exactly the same setup for AspireOS as well as Icaros Desktop, and both got networking with virtualbox without any problems for me.

If you have things setup correctly, what does ifconfig all shows you ?

Can you ping other machines ?

Is your local loopback (127.0.0.1) active at all ?

2 - I want that AspireOS see and mount a second hardfile, maked with VB and formatted from icaros with SFS file system... but maybe this last file system isn't compatible with so old AspireOS version... maybe If I will format it in fat16 or fat32 file system, maybe AspireOS see and mount it. I will try ! Any other idea ?

That was the reason i suggested to try with a fat formatted harddisk.

afaik there were some changes (improvements) made in sfs handler that _might_ be cause for the particular case that an icaros formatted hd cannot be seen by using an older distribution like AspireOS.

Also AspireOS has FAT and NTFS handlers, so it should not be a problem to access disk formatted with these filesystems (although ntfs is read only, and contains bugs. It still does, even today).

Bye Bye and thanx to all !

You're welcome

i just fear there isn't anything more i can do or say to make things automagically work for you.

Since you have things running ok with Icaros, you already know what exact AROS settings are required.

Therefor it is my understanding that me posting pictures of my setup is not going to help you a bit :-/

Normally i would suggest to ask nikolaos (the maintainer of AspireOS) for help, but he's been quiet on the forums for a while now.

There are probably not many (active forum) people left that actually run AspireOS, hence why i reacted to your message

If someone else out there has any idea's then please feel free to give a hand.

WOW !

Prover? a formattarlo in fat16 o fat32... magari sar? pi? fortunato !

Quote:

For the usb problem, the only solution i know of is using an older version of virtualbox.

What is your host operating system ?

I think i misunderstood your HD problem (was given me by google translate).

From the google translation I understood that you wanted to attach a second HD, formated as sfs, to be shared between two virtual machines. One being AspireOS and the other VM being Icaros Desktop.

If the above is indeed accurated to your situation, could you try the same with the shared drive being formatted as fat and see if that works ?

In case your situation differs would you then be so kind and explain (this time in English) what exactly is not working for you with AspireOS and the harddisk ?

red:
I did another translation using another translator, which gave me some additional information i hadn't noticed before.

- It is not possible to dualboot AspireOS and Icaros.
- You should _never_ mix AspireOS with Icaros files, especially not if they are system drivers and _absolutely never_ when they originate from different kernel versions of AROS.
- Because of the previous note, you're most likely to have borked your AspireOS installation. Please make a fresh installation. Format the virtual HD and start over with installing AspireOS.

fwiw:
Attached picture of AspireOS Xenon running on virtualbox 4.1.6 R74713 on a windows host, attempting to connect to host ftp server (i forgot the userlist ). Also note the usb icon.
