I've fixed both sh and the native shell so that they print an error when the stack can't be allocated. These fixes are only in ABIv1 for now.

For me it seems to work like a charm :thumbsup:

I got myself into another strange (unrelated) situation.

Although its origin seems clear (to few memory), the issue looks strange:
- start aros hosted (in my case mingw abiv0) with 50 mb of memory.
- open a shell
- stack 2048000
- sh
- dir
results for me in:
sh: dir: No error

Using the same sequence but using stack 1024000 works as expected.

I mention it because there does not seem an obvious error reported back to the user, but perhaps that's intended ?

I've just committed a fix for this. I introduced the bug while fixing another. I've attached the fixed library.

WARNING: don't use old posixc.library versions to work around the configure bug, as those versions contain a different bug that can lead to filesystem corruption (e.g. when handling TAR-based files).

fwiw and afaik deadwood is aware and seem to know the origin of current problems.

So, if i understood correctly, all that we can do now is wait for a fix.

Here too. The problems I had were not serious. Configure seems to be working okay with the earlier version of the posixc.library.

the copy of posixc lib was a really good hint

sh is stable under hosted for me again, and configure seems to run (at least gets invoked) on hosted and nightly. Now the script hangs somewhere in the middle (tried cabextract again, as that's known to have worked for me).

PS: i forgot something, that i didn't do this time. Configure seems to have issues with dots and/or a minus sign in the directroy name. Once i renamed the "cabextract-1.4" directory into "cabextract14", configure worked correctly for me

O, hold on a minute. sh shows the same instability, but configure seems to get a little further. It finally end up in a division by zero i(in input.device) for me when trying configure on cabextract.

Copied the posixc.library from the nightly of 20140930 to Icaros 2.0.1.

The configure script ran, but seemed to have some problems with the build triplet and also did not find a sh config file, but created makefiles for one of the two that I tried.
