Neil: thank you a lot for fixing intelgfx. 3D is even a little faster than before.Tunnel mesa 3d demo ran 5 fps faster with abi v.1 backport than normal abi v.0

One question, a friend of mine (so me too, but I still have to make crossed tests) gets issues with WIP5 on the same chipset (but maybe not the same revision) and Gallium 3D. Do you confirm that there are issues, that are being solved, with the new core abi-v0-ot ?

Yes, there was an issue with Intel 3D. It has been fixed in the latest ABIv0-OT.

GLInfo (in Demos/Mesa) should say which driver is in use I believe - aswell as other gl features supported by it.

@paolone :

oh yes, i ofcourse thought about something like that... but as magorium says, when we don't have a real reference, it is difficult to tell.

Pentium D and GMA 945 are old (maybe 10 years old ?) and quite slow together...

Maybe some tool exists somewhere that allows one to know which configuration is being used... i will search.

thanx.

Some software let's you choose. For instance, YQuake has a video menu option to use software or opengl rendering. If you have both available, the game will run in either mode, but there are obvious differences in rendering style. If you only have software rendering then the game will be impossible to play in hardware mode, yet it should be okay in software mode.

Also some software keeps a log of which rendering mode was used. For example if you run glmark from the shell (with enough stack), the log will report if the softpipe renderer is used.

Iirc, the softpipe is not normally used if native drivers are available.

ROFL

But, i guess you've got a point there.

Problem is, that i dunno how slow intel 3D actually is (or can be) and quite honestly with regards to some titles, i am able to get around 3-5 fps with software rendering (even with virtualbox). It's rare though, i admit.

So, taking that statement into account, that would mean i have hardware that supports 3D rendering ?

Oh, that's quite easy. If you can count frames per second, you're using hw rendering. But if you must count seconds per frame... well, that would be software rendering....

(the other way to see the question is : do the mesa able to run, even slowly, without a supported 3D hardware acceleration ?)

Yes, because afaik if your hardware does not support 3D hardware rendering, the soft-pipe rendering would kick in.

tbh, i have no idea how one should be able to detect the difference (if that's possible at all).
