Soft links should work in the next nightly build (2013-02-14).

Interesting read, thanks. There appears to even be conceptual differences amongst the developers as to how it should work in all situations.
They would make my life easier in some circumstances too but I'm scared to use them currently. Likely not a high priority especially given historical flakiness; what is correct behavior? Maybe the command should respond with, "Not implemented" when used. Thanks. Nathan

AFAIR links caused always problems on AmigaOS. At least in AmigaOS 3.1 (last version I ever used and possessed), you could always find situations, where links did not behave as expected/documented. I used them a lot (as I was used to them in Unix), but you had be very careful.

AFAIK, there are currently problems with handling links, so their use is discouraged.
They would have simplified my life, too, with Icaros scripts, but I had to found some alternative ways to do what I needed.

I'm typing in examples from the Mastering AmigaDOS tm book. I'm using
icAROS 1.5.0 on a pendrive with SFS formatted RDB partitions. From a shell: cd DU1: copy c:list du1: makelink try du1:list try try: object not found However, typing "DU1:try" correctly lists contents of DU1: Continuing: delete try Results in, "Not Deleted: object is in use" infinite loop which locks shell. CTRL+C and opening new shell: cd DU1: du1:try ... "Correctly lists contents of DU1:" delete list try try: object not found du1:try du1:try: object not found From book, "If you modify the file or any of the links connected to it the links are removed and the links become files in their own right." Another example at shell: echo >DU1:LT "This is a link test." makelink LT2 DU1:LT type LT2 Results in a system requestor, "Please insert volume "p'QBriefcase" in any drive". The p'Q is garbage. DOpus correctly recognizes these links via underlining. It took a reboot and DOpus to delete them, however. Please let me know if you see the same, I'm doing something wrong or if this is a work-in-progress. Thanks. Nathan
