Status:
* Virtualbox & real hardware - fixed the issues (QEMU wasn't strict enough when simulating certain registers' DMA address bits) * CDROM - Partial CDROM (ATAPI) support is in, but I seem to have occasional stalls. * ICH9 machines - these may be a problem. ABIv0 does not support APIC/ACPI interrupt routing, and this seems to be required for some AHCI chipset/BIOS combinations. The symptoms are that the devices will be detected, but continually time out when accessed (undelivered interrupts). A new build should pop out by Tuesday (Oct 16, 2012) for testing. I'm going to try to get the CDROM issues fixed before then, but here's hoping.

Paolo: I simply assumed that even if you put BIOS in AHCI mode, optical drives would still run under IDE emulation or whatever, but I get your point.
At least from what I understood from the guide in the start of this thread, is that you have to installed AROS with AHCI option from installer and then add AHCI to grub line, else it will not work.

@amiga
Windows XP with SP2 or higher is compatible with SATA AHCI, only older versions are not. Ahh.. I remember I had to use external files from a CD to make it work on XP, but I stand corrected. But that is nice to know also. But still Verry nice that Aros is taking the leap to AHCI.

Other OSes boot fine from CD with AHCI set in bios.
paolone your screen shot with ATA lines isn't what you should be seeing with AHCI enabled from grub line... Maybe its case sensitive and you should put "ahci" not "AHCI". It should be more like nepumuk's: AHCI 1.1 capabilities 0xc8241f81<S64A,NCQ,SSS,SAM,CCCS>, 2 ports, 32 tags/port, gen 2 (3Gbps) ahci.device 0.0: Caps 0 ahci.device 0.1: Caps 0 ... I see those lines then the screen blacks out before I can read the bottom of the screen and comes up with the waiting for bootable media screen.

niko, if you have both SATA DVD and Hard Drive connected to the same controller, which is supposed to be set on AHCI via BIOS, how can you pretend to boot AROS at all, if you can't place the 'AHCI' parameter in grub "on the fly" even with DVD?
