I wrote the mediaplayer backend for Odyssey MorphOS. It relies on ffmpeg (like chrome) and it supports all the codecs. It's still about 4000 lines of code, and it works quite efficiently in overlay mode. H264 may have some patent issues, but it's still used in several sites using html5 video, since chrome, safari, iphone/ipad support it. Webm is mainly used on youtube, currently.

: ) I know that it is OT.. but i think also worthy. BTW not my idea! But i like it and it adds a really easy way of getting more apps to AROS.

You mean Odyssey... doesn't Odyssey feel like Zune application? ;) Serious what you request is the complete WebKit packaged into a Zune class. This should be possible, but that has nothing to do with the HTML5 video topic. :)

yep!! h.264 100% needs to be optional!
In fact it should not be included in the main package!

All codec support comes from selected decoder library - in this case ffmpeg. I suggest removing H.264 not from technical but from legal side of this. The H.264 codec has some patented parts AFAIK.

Shouldn't be big problem as all webkit browsers support it. Only Opera and Firefox have problem with H264. Or am I too optimistic? ![]()

My suggestion:
Make HTML5 player for Odyssey web browser. It must support WebM/V8 and Ogg/Theora/Vorbis codes. H.263/H.264 support is optional. Embedded HTML5 videos on Youtube must work.
