Excellent. If I needed confirmation of my mad idea from anyone, it was you Fabio!

Thanks, I'm off to see howmuch stuff I can get away with recompiling to speed up my ancient Amithlon machine!

What about the reverse. Could some of the thing compliled this way for Amithlon be compiled for Aros?

That depends on what ABI was used for the x86 part of Amithlon

Right, this is something I've been thinking about for a long time.

Amithlon is runs the 68k parts of OS3.9 quite speedily, but is capable of running x86-native compiled Amiga software created using gg-i686be-amithlon-gcc compiler.

Am I correct in assuming I could compile the AROS source for commands from the C directory such as LIST,DELETE,RUN,RENAME etc using the amithlon-big-endian compiler, and they would run under amithlon as native x86 versions of the old 68k compiled version? Just like we could theoretically compile 68k binaries from the same source?

I think this would be a nice way of running a legacy free Amithlon if we replace all the 68k bits of software as much as we can, and we'd get the benefit of the 68k JIT compiler still for other stuff?

Am I living in cloud cuckoo land?
