It IS part of Xoops itself, so if you dont like how that works, go and complain to the developers of this software, im merely a user of the Xoops CMS package.

And sending that last message, I get another thank you, of course. But on this computer and browser and at this time, it's a message block, rather then a balloon, that fits with the style, is timely, and goes by too fast to ask for any attention anyway.
So I'm leaving wondering whether nobody bothered to tell me *why* they disagreed, or whether someone has improved the settings after all. Well, maybe in a few mnth's time I'll try to find out.

Bye
Mysha

Hi Henry,

"4pLaY says it's part of how Xoops is set up."
It would have been nice if he had said that, rather than that it was part of Xoops itself, for then I would have gone checking that before people started "behaving". But as it is, thank you for being the first person to actually give advice on how to do something about it, but the other lot has taken away my pleasure in this forum more than that blasted message had.

And just in case you misread: If you read back, you'll see that in my initial message I'm just motivating why I am asking, and later I am just explaining that I find configurability more important than somone's opinion that it works for them. There's no "complaining" in itself. Nor is there any display of knowledge about the forum, as I don't have any; I'm as amazed about the reactions that assume I do have such knowledge, as that lot apparently are about me daring to ask how to change my configuration. For peace' sake: A simple configuration question!

Well, maybe I'll see you around in month or two or three or ...
Bye
Mysha

If you know it all and have the answers then why are you even asking? Additionally, why are you asking *here*, as it's a xoops thing, and not unique to this site. Feel free to develop the functionality youre after and let AROS-Exec use it if you feel the need though, or you could fund development for it if youre not capable. Personally Im quite happy with what people have provided me with for free on this site.

4pLaY says it's part of how Xoops is set up. If you're that bothered about it, find out whether this is true by researching Xoops configuration. If it is true, talk to the Xoops developers. You're not doing yourself any favours by complaining about it here, try being productive and do something about it.

Hi Kalamatee,

Yes, there really are people who would like the tools they use to be configurable to their preferences. Some programmers apparently find it difficult to limit themselves to the actual functionality of the application, and not to touch other areas or at least allow tp the user to leave anything else out.

Thus, you'll get an AROS where there are exceptions to every rule, because there are always programmers who feel they should handle the looks of their window themselves, create their own requesters, our own sounds for system events, etc.. We do such things because hubris is one of the things that make us good programmers. (<http://www.hhhh.org/wiml/virtues.html>)

Empathy is not one of the three programmers' virtues. It's what would make us realise that not everyone would agree with our choices. For lack of this, a lot of applications display a distinct characteristic, which some will accept as its identity while others will see it as hindering integration. Examples of the first group are those who see this system we're writing on as "Xoops"; examples of the second are those who see it as "a forum".

Those who have the laziness, impatience and hubris to fill our world with programs that we all can use are the good programmers of the world. Those who on top of that have the empathy to not force their choices upon their users, are the great programmers. They are the kind of people who would rather design the best computer ever than just a flight-simulator. With our heritage, we should not settle for anything less.

My thoughts also. Damned polite computers, where and when will it end? Personally I wont be happy until they tell me, "F@ck off idiot, who the hell do you think you are telling me what to post?" (or something to that effect)

p.s. there's a not small chance I was being sarcastic

Wow - are people really that #OOPS# that they take issue with a forum showing a "thanks for your submission" message after posting? I mean seriously...

Its hard to please everyone .
