Forgotten and buried. Do you personally have a use for it? But I have currently not much time.

I'll have a look how Amiga-Python implements its AREXX ports. I hope that the bug in regina.library which causes crashes in applications like YAM doesn't go in my way.

How end it up this one?

Yes, Its possible to make other things talk to applications through their AREXX port, possibly any other language interpreter, but its not as simple as that. Apps may have been written, when finding AREXX libraries and message ports and use them for various features (bundled scripts) and may offer some of their internal functions to the AREXX interpreter for other programs to use or share data. In other words under AmigaDOS 3.x, there is/was a whole infrastructure built around AREXX by multiple applications being aware of AREXX and each others AREXX support. I think the book "Programmers Guide to ARexx" by Eric Giguere (lost mine in many moves) was a good reference. It would be nice to implement that in a more language agnostic way for all "style guide compliant" applications.

@HenryCase

I seem to recall Carl telling the Amiga community in a speech that somebody had made an exact replica of Deluxe Paint in Rebol complete with anim-brushes and everything. Rebol makes GUIs easily and supports "dialects" based on parsing expression grammars.

What advantages would that bring?

@HenryCase:

I recommend you studying thoroughly Rebol; once you do, the benefits over other old-school solutions, are clear to see.

Perhaps you could give me an example of something REBOL can do easily that wouldn't be possible to achieve as elegantly in ARexx, seeing as you've obviously looked into it in depth.

Anyway, I'm not saying we shouldn't have a port of REBOL, but I'm questioning what advantages it has over the current arrangement with ARexx. I'm all for people having control over their system using their favourite tools, but reading others posts here ARexx/Regina already supports using separate scripting languages to control applications with ARexx ports, so we already have all the potential we need with the current system.

Port Rebol to Aros so as to replace arexx/regina.
Think about it: Applications in Aros could have a Rebol port, just like Amiga apps had an arexx port.

You can use any language that can call Amiga libraries to create, receive and process messages over an Arexx port - it's not tied to Arexx the language.

I don't see the appeal in replacing ARexx, though. I don't like the language, but the benefit it has is that that it is shared across the Amiga-like OS's. With the current size of the community I question the benefit of fragmenting things further.

That said, a Rebol port to AROS with support for ARexx would be nice - more languages are always welcome.

With Lua + Zulu you can do impressive things in few lines and it's very easy to learn.

Or maybe, if Rebol is out of question, we should convince the author of AWNPipe (http://web.ukonline.co.uk/awnpipe/ ) to release the source code to the Aros community.

AWNPipe needs ReAction.
