@ popper

We will look into the library you suggest later, but for now we have what we need for the basics and to get started. I believe people will like this, there will be some limitations to start, but this will be a journey to give Aros and other Amiga flavours a video editor.

On the CDRip, I would love to see more than one person register this, (thanks Nikos) because Ian is a great coder but like Davy he makes his living from coding so he needs to make a little bit from his efforts.

He is going to put an About page on all apps with his paypal details.

I hope to have something to show within two weeks for video editing.

As some of you are aware, I have paid for Quick Recorder (Audio sampler), which is free of charge, I also funded Quick CDRipper which is an experiment of shareware for Aros, although failing as an experiment.

Next one is Quick Videos which is being worked on now. This aims to offer basic video editing under Aros and is basically a GUI sitting on top of Mplayer/Mencoder which provide the grunt for the system.

It is not going to compete with Avid or Apple Video tools yet, but will be able to cut video clips, and arrange them and select resolution and format for output with audio. Also it will handle inserting or straight encoding of single frame animation files as well or mixed with normal video files.

This will start with good basic functionality and grow over time. I am funding the first stage again to get something running which I can use, but I have future plans and would like to setup a bounty for the stage two enhancements.

This money will go to Ian who is doing the work and I would like to raise around 3-500 euros if possible to fund the next stage of this work because I cannot afford to.

I hope you will see the fruits of the first version very soon and then add a donation to a pot.

So, please comment here if you would donate, or I will have to charge for this software to fund it and going by the response to the CDRipper it was not supported and development will stall. This source will be available, but the official version will be held by me to guide development.

These three applications are NATIVE Aros apps and development is cost friendly but not free. We hope to port to AOS4 and MorphOS as well.

Comments please.

after many years of using and finding the best visual quality and easiest code its clear your far better off looking at porting and enhancing "Avidemux" as that is already cross platform too, it will give you far more scope later.

its not about looking or working like Avid or Apple Video tools, but rather getting the best and closest you can to x264 and ffmpeg from an always current API POV and Avidemux is kept upto date with these two main video API's.

in fact the only other one worth including today to complete the full set is the LinuxTV/Media code base, everything else today is just secondary to these 3.

avidemux is in effect merely a GUI wrapped around ffmpeg/x264.

Mplayer/Mencoder does have it's uses OC and also uses Indirectly the ffmpeg/x264 code ,but its not going in the right direction if your looking for the best/Pro Grade code-base that's being taken up by many of the worlds corps now that x264 has a commercial licence option and their dev's are also working on x262 a Mpeg2 Encoder derived from the core x264lib etc, DVD/BR authoring/suit GUI and audio etc.

seriously, using existing avidemux video editing as your base is the far better option if you dont want to go directly with ffmpeg/x264 and build a GUI around them.

i am not a video editing person but love to see some apps/tools for aros & even i did tryed to compile vlc player also did have look at mplayers code and plus i even compiled flv2mpeg4 from
http://vixynet.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/vixynet/trunk/flv2mpeg4/src/
but fetch.c letmedown due to no pthread for aros.

so we got most of the function in mplayer/vlcplayer/mencoder/flv2mpeg4/sound
and now we need to put all the needed function in one app for a complate editor.

I will donate is well if anyone with time who is willing to have a goooo.

Great news - I'll definitely be contributing to this. I'll also be purchasing a copy of the CD ripper in the near future when I get a few minutes to sort this out - life is currently rather busy here!

Cheers,
Nigel.

Edit:
Just found a few moments to have a look at QuickRip. Works nicely - well worth 10 Euro. Except last time I tried to feed a banknote into the computer's floppy drive it just made a mess... More seriously, just givemn the e-mail address for payment, it's dificult to see how this money can be transfered short of sending banking details, whcih is clearly never a good idea over e-mail. Is there a more secure way of transfering funds (e.g. PayPal)? Thanks.

Count me in! I like the idea and I would be willing to donate as well. Being able to edit small videos is almost a must-have for every modern system in the days of almighty YouTube...

(though for this month my reserves are depleted unfortuantely...)

I like your idea Stephen, and I know the projects you realise end up with high-quality-products.
I use video- and audio-editing-tools often on my Windows-machines, so I would donate at a bounty for your Quick Media Tools even if the results don't reach any stage of development as the programs for Windows. I can not affort much but 10 to 20 Euro I would put in the pot like I did before at other bounties.

BTW, I havn't tried the Quick Record Audio tool and the Quick CDRip yet 'couse the lack of time ATM - so my response for these progs will come later.

@ClusterUk:

I say, go for it !!
I like the idea of using mplayer/mencoder for editing videos; very ingenious. It reminds me why I love the Amiga platform.
