As such a general USB enhancement project would help to make AROS usable on most PCs including netbooks and laptops that don't have the option of adding supported PCI cards.

If so I would donate to that bounty as it would help make AROS much more useful to me. As it would mean that as well as adding AROS support to my netbook it would mean that I could use AROS on any computer by just plugging in my USB thumb drive and USB lan card.

If USB audio cards were also supported I'd be very happy to contribute to this.

Yup, I remember as well that Chris was working video class around the time Poseidon was ported to AROS.

To get webcams (and audio cards!) pciusb.device would have to be enhanced with isonchrounous transfers. Who better suited to do this than Chris :)

So by employing Chris we could also possibly get USB sound cards apart from web cams.

If you get Chris to work on it, I will join in with some money.

As Chris Hodges, author of the excellent Poseidon USB stack, wrote on this website a year ago, he had been working on a webcam class based on the UVC standard. The official Poseidon product page lists "usbvideo.vhi" as a feature.

Also, a quick note about "free use": Power2People only accepts open source bounties. Binary releases do not meet the requirements irregardless of whether software may be used for free or not.

Seems reasonable points, all I want is to have a minimum of two video inputs to enable visual recognition system potential for Aros in the future. This all starts with a camera interface of one kind or another and USB web cameras are cheapest option.

Perhaps you or someone more knowledgeable than me could draft up a specification for me in this thread that could then launch a bounty. I will put token amount in until taken up then put in the cost price of an IMICA.

Ultimately this must be free to all users.

Not that I'm the right developer to do this, but you should define what you understand with web-cams

[_] Web cam is a USB camera plugged into the computer, You need a server programm that reads from this USB cameras and acts as server over the internet.

[_] Web cam is a camera with TCP/IP over (W)Lan that gives you access via a Web Interface supporting HTTP push and some streaming protocolls. You need a client programm that understands some of this protocols.

Whilst Aros development is accelerating at a large pace lately I have been trying to encourage the development of a generic Web-cam driver for Aros for quite some time and have struggled to get one.

So as the title suggests I will offer a free IMICA Silent machine which is starting to sell in reasonable numbers to any developer who can deliver a generic USB Web-cam driver.

Key points

1. Must support as many Web-cams as possible.
2. Must allow applications to grab any frames from the streams for processing.
3. Must be able to support at least two cameras at the same time.
4. Easy to incorporate into the Aros system.
5. Must be released for free usage

If you want to develop for Aros but prefer the cash instead, this is acceptable too.
