Re: Aros-Subsystem for ReactOS possible ?
#5
my idea is, if someone makes a port to ReactOS, it would be possible to have ReactOS/AROS as one Operating system, that can use Windows drivers and (if the win32 subsystem is also in this package) use the most of the windows Applications without the need for a reboot.
With this OS AROS users could always use the most actual Hardware and have all needed drivers for it.
I think this would be much better than a linux hosted version, because the driver support for Linux will never be as good as the support for windows. And a lot of people need to use windows applications and would have to reboot before they could use it.

umn, i was under the imprssion porting to one is the same as porting to the other, seeing how it is nt4..

anyhow - since it allows you to understand how the os interaction takes place a bit better than windows, from a developers perspective i would think reactos would be a better testbed till its up and running as a "win32" port...

The problem with that, that ReactOS is not sitting at everyone's home... so, i don't see why it would be so good. Beacuse AROS could use Windows drivers then? Then it would be nicer to port to Windows itself... Or at least, that's what i think.

It certainly is possible, but I don't know of anyone who might be willing to attempt a port of AROS to ReactOS right now.

Aros-Subsystem for ReactOS possible ?
#1
I found Reactos by accident. http://www.reactos.com/

This is a open source implementation of Windows NT.
I asked myself if it is possible to program a aros subsystem for reactos, so one could use aros apps beside to windows apps.
The advantage in using the ReactOS Kernel instead of a Linux Kernel would be that you could use Windows Drivers that are available for any piece of Hardware.

It's just an idea ...
please tell me what you think about it.
