Just search "gma500 linux" and see the comments

Imagination Technologies chipset (GMA500) - earlier version used to be in the Dreamcast - has issues with drivers other than windows ones.

I rather like the chipset but the rather closed nature of it all puts me off.

Jeff.

Drivers seem to be available but I have no such device, so I cannot judge on their quality.

If you are happy using the Vesa driver then I am sure it will be good with a fast processor.

Sorry, in my opinion, avoid it for anything other than windows use. Even intel could not get great drivers for linux.

The chipset could be useful if it were not the issue of drivers.

Good evening,

ARGH! Never go back in history while editing a post! Had to rewrite everything, so here it comes once again:
At first I wanted to buy an ION 9300/9400 based board but it seems that it won't get 3D support regarding deadwood's citation from nouveau Wiki.
Now I think about buying an Atom board with GMA500 graphics and US15W SCH chipset which is capable of h/w accelerated video playback for H.264, MPEG2, VC1, and WMV9. This will be one of my most use cases for this baord, so I am very much interested whether AROS can benefit by this. Is anybody using such kind of board? Can he provide any information on how good/bad it works (speed, compatibility and such)? This is an Intel chipset, so I wonder how good 2D and 3D support already is. Gallium3D started with Intel graphics but most people here only use GeForce cards which I won't use due to lack of slots on my favourite board.
What I also like to know: Where exactly do we benefit by Gallium3D already and where can we expect it anytime soon? I see some graphic demos which are fine to look at but just a gimmick to me. Are there any applications that can take advantage of 3D graphics on AROS? For the moment, nothing more than 2D is used for GUI, OWB (no plugins yet and there will rarely be some making use of 3D acceleration) and HDTV video playback.
