Interesting point on the 32 bit and yes I checked and you are correct. A point to be aware of maybe.

However, Aros at the moment and for the forseable future is 32 bit so not such a problem especially when netbooks max out at 2gb ram usually. I still prefer putting in the N450 for the better battery life however anyway.

Also the n450 is 64bit whilst n270 is 32bit.

Though don't like the usual Intel cutting off competition by going down a closed technical route (FSB (n270) to DMI (n450)). But that's Intel/business for you.

Battery life is important as well as the replace-ability.

Screen size not sure about.

Another thought is the ethernet support depending on which one you choose.

Yep great to see the smartbook (always wondered if the Pegatron one would be competition) at last but would prefer a matt finish (fingerprints)...

Jeff.

It might be a good idea.

Seriously, dude, you just have to choose a pair of drivers and you're ok with the distribution, already.

No need for selecting audio drivers, everything installed and made default.
Also aspire one network card would be set up default with dhcp enabled. As said decoration might also be disabled from s:startu-seq..
Also some nice desktop background for 1024x600. (Icaros-aspire desktop)

Also the amistart you should do simpler. It makes trouble when typing from shell etc.
I would disable showing tasks and screens etc.

The problem with Aspire-one is that there is no cd or dvd-rom. You would need external one. Therefore the prefered option would be usb-key.

Either way, we are talking about 2 options the way I see it.

One iso (usb-key) would be install with ubuntu and aros hosted.
Other would be iso (usb-key) with everything needed, and tweaked for aspire one.
One exaple for tweak I could give, is that decoration should be disabled in aspire one hosted. It just give a nice speed boost. Also in native I guess, at least with no native gfx.

The prefect iso (usb-key) but very difficult solution would be selection on boot time to run either ubuntu or aros. Just like clusteruk said he would do with the laptop. On ubuntu aros would also be installed to run hosted.
This stuff is kind of easy to set up if you do it by hand, but to do this with an installer from a iso disk. hmmmmmmm sounds difficult.
A good guide might solve that. I don't know ?

I'm with the greek on this one.

I'd pay up to a ?100 for a good Aspire One AROS CD.

It could be a two ISO deal.

One ISO to install the basic Icaros desktop system on the Aspire one, and then a small ISO to install the custom "buy now" Aspire One drivers.

How about that?

I put my toughts about this on amigaworld, but I like to say it here too.

I feel strongly that the 25th AMiga (AROS) laptop would be ACER aspire-one series.
It's almost fully supported, and possible to get from everywhere.

Clusteruk: don't get me wrong, but I feel that sending that mashine around the world would not make it that nice deal.

What I would do is to make a distro that install easy to Aspire-One. That would include not open source drivers, like native intel gfx, and maybe some other stuff.
That distro could be payed and downloaded at once from your website.
I know we are talking open source this and that, and the legal aspects with it I don't know.
The good option would be a usb-key with everything on it, that would boot from aspire one. Yes, still need to send, but very light and cheap to send.

The Imica I would continue to sell, and focus to get AudioEvolution ported. That would make it the perfect home studio mashine. Little (portable) and quiet.
You might even sell it with option for high-end soundcard like the ones Envy24ht supports.

I know all this might seam mush work, but in the end I think its the only way to make any profit.

This is great.

I would suggest the faster processor, as that will extend the life of the particular model, and given the small market, being able to keep a single model longer is a big deal.

For the screen, I would suggest saving the money and going for the the smaller screen. This is a netbook. As you said, if you want, you can plug it into a full size screen, but when you start getting into 12" screens, you are are basically getting a full laptop. The larger screen is also not going to add to the useful life of the system.
