I agree that reactos is NOWHERE even close to useable on most hardware. Anything Aros can't do, Ubuntoo can handle.

I think most people buying an imica already has a windows box.
Me, I wouldn't want to #OOPS# my aros pc up with windows.

I have vectorlinux and aros dualbooting, but I rarely have to use linux on my aros box. Of course, it really depends on what your doing I suppose.

I am using my aros box for a music tracker. Honestly I could do what I am doing on aros on ms-dos with fast tracker II, but its nicer on AROS.

Hi,

I noticed something important : when ubuntu is udptad on the kernel side, the aros grub continue to work, BUT it can causes some bugs in ubuntu boot or shutdown.

You have to manually edit the grub.cfg under aros to change the kernel informations when ubuntu makes an update of it.

you could deliver the iMica with ICAROS, Ubuntu and ReactOS.

ReactOS is an Open Source Windows clone which runs at least some Windows Program and Drivers.
Of course it is still alpha Software, but the compatability to Windows is already impressing.

It would also be a good placeholder for a real Windows Setup.

Hi Heinz712

I would rather supply the real windows to be fair than reactos. No disrespect to the work put in, but if people want windows they just pay for a license fee or transfer an existing copy.

I like Ubuntu because it makes up for areas where Aros lacks at the moment so people get a complete system capable of most things with the promise of a new AmigaOS in the future.

you can browse files of your real ubuntu installation from a live cd session : you'll just have to mount the partition where it is installed, after booting the ubuntu livecd.

You can do that graphically, just go in your personnal drawer, in the left column you'll see the volumes where your ubuntu real installation is. Mount it, go into boot/grub/menu.lst, and note the needed infos ;)

I just sent you my grub.cfg file by email.

I agree 100% do not need to see test, this is why I believe in Aros and the Atom board so much. At moment we are not seeing the best of Aros and Atom.

On grub yes I would would love to have that. Got a problem at moment that it is tricky setting boot partition between Linux and Aros to test grub without reinstalling. However I will try your grub from CD. Thanks for help,

believe me, when aros will have just good GFX drivers, it will fly a lot faster than linux ! try to disable dual core and hardware acceleration under ubuntu, you'll see linux is not so fast... ;)

EDIT : BTW, do you still need a grub.cfg copy ? my aros setup works again so I can send it to you if you want ;)

Ubuntu 9.04 supports the full Atom board, everything, and it flies. For most users, I believe it is the perfect base system. Even with fancy effects turned on it runs like a dream.

Hopefully I am conveying it runs well. Also shows how good Aros would be when dual core and drivers written even though it runs well now, it just needs the boost of second core and native Intel GFX drivers.

BTW, does ubuntu supports atom dual core and hardware graphic driver ?

I know it runs very good with amd dual core and nvidia graphic card (what I am using on my pro PC to work), but how about atom dual core?
