I'm not sure what your partition table looks like now. The normal situation is for there to be a virtual HD partition of type 0x30 in an MBR table. The virtual HD then contains an RDB table with one or more partitions. Going by others' experiences, it seems that AROS virtual HDs may not be completely compatible with WinUAE ones.

HDToolBox does work (although I wouldn't trust it completely), but you have to go back up to the top level of the drive after making changes to get the Save button enabled.

If you want to use Linux tools to create your AROS partitions, you can create an SFS partition directly in an MBR table with type 0x2f. Such partitions will be named e.g. ATA0P1: in AROS.

Also, C:Partition gives slightly more control than InstallAROS.

With todays nightly I was able to boot AROS with the USB DVD drive (with "enableusb" keyword given). Still doesn't recognise the partition and even HDToolbox doesn't allow me to change anything (or is this program just an unfunctional dummy?) and I don't trust the installAROS program NOT do delete my other partitions on my harddrive.

Did you change the virtual HD's MBR type from UAE's 0x76 to AROS's 0x30?

I changed it to 0x2f, at least in the last attempts. I don't know if I had it at 0x30 at some point, because the information on the web and the docs were inconsistent...

I'll try at the next boot, but currently, it doesn't even boot the kernel as my build does not seem to be functioning.

There seems to be a problem with Poseidon in the kernel, for deadwood it always crashes with a software failure.

The docs regarding the limitations (data/bbs section) seem to be outdated and I have no idea what the problem is right now :-/

Poseidon runs fine from a read-only image in Amiga classic flashrom or in MorphOS boot.img.

Hmm, is another way? Maybe from existing linux instalation?

I was able to compile a kernel today which should have poseidon available at boot time in kernel. I couldn't test it though, debugging on my MSI-wind-alike netbook is hardly possible.

My former attempts to get AROS to this machine included repartitioning with Linux, creating an emulated partition with WinUAE, writing the AROS files from the CD into this partition file with WinUAE and copying the file into the space of the partition on the HD. Unfortunately, AROS didn't seem to recognise the partition, though WinUAE did, so I gave up at this point.

AFAIK Chris made some initial work on embeding usb into kernel, but it does not work yet. Some other dev needs to pick this up and continue... maybe mschulz while working on ARM? ;)

I don't think so. AFAIK Poseidon is still loaded indipendently, after other parts of the system went online. USB media support should be somehow embedded in the kernel to allow using a stick.

But I haven't tried by myslef (too much things to do these days), I primise to investigate further on the subject when I'll be back from vacation.

It'a real pain since Icaros' USB support is still very basic, so it would not allow booting from a USB peripheral, thus forbiding installation from it. But Chris Hodges and others are porting, bugfixing and improving on Poseidon USB stack code, so someday you'll be able to run it natively on the netbook. For now, however, it is still impossible.
