Intels D945GSEJT should also work and has DVI and is Atom but lower power consumption than D945GCLF2

Steve,

I agree with you on updating the current drivers and not creating new ones.

However AC97 is technically a discontinued standard. It hasn't been completely replaced but it will be.

What happens when all the new Itx boards no longer support pci and move on to newer standards?

I'm not saying we should rush right out and go support all the latest standaards like SAS and such. I just don't think we should cling to dying standards.

and By hangups I just meant it was missing onboard sound support and a proper 2D Driver.

I am not saying not to do it, I am saying there is nobody to do it yet. And until there is we use what is available and standardise.

It is not missing sound because of PCI card, but I agree native sound and 2d drivers are something I am pursuing but no luck yet.

However, in the mean time for all intents and purposes it works fullyand well. A bit like A mustang not having a Mustang engine but a chevvy until it is fixed.

Actually the jetway has the same onboard netcard as my current gigabyte board. Which is supported by the 8168 driver. So currently it has the same hangups as the current Imica board.

Plus it has hdmi out. Which currently is useless but, depending on if / when the hda driver is created might actually become useful. Just remember that hda is a standard that is followed by more then just Intel. As long as we are using current sources for the driver it should help all platforms not just intel. The bigger issue with HDA is not if it's intel/Amd but, which codecs are supported.

Interesting news on the 8168 driver, but not sure what you mean by 'Same Hangups as iMica'. There is an iMica.device on icaros which works very reliably try that. Again, HDA driver not there, best to work with drivers we have had created than create new when there are no developers.

The problem on boards is there are a few now and I have to pick one and I cannot keep changing. I like the two I have picked, the original works very well and supports sound, nic and vesa graphics and the second I will confirm in a week or two but should be the same but a lot faster. I seriously looked at ION version which was worth looking at but again only benefit (stream processors) cannot be utilised yet on Aros.

Like most things everybody has a valid opinion but when it comes to building units you have to standardise and offer as many bangs per buck as possible whilst being compatible.

Trust me on this, the Intel processor may be a bit more expensive but the motherboard is a lot cheaper so it balances out. Plus new board also has high speed 1080p graphics, and DVI. But it has network driver too, so with your AMD board you have network or sound and not both in the PCI slot if that is PCI.

If we can have 2 boards like this, fully supported for aros (in the better case, with hardware graphics, overlay and multiple core support), some good and stable software offer, and "on casserait la baraque" like we say in france !

One promise I can make is that I am doing all I can to get more native drivers for these boards and other improvements. Remember native Intel means native on most netbooks also. Both boards are from same family and with future work will become I believe the perfect low cost Media and Aros machines.

Oh and these boxes come with a cream front version which may echo back to Amiga case colour.

I totally agree with that, and your choice is wise :

one "multimedia" board (= current imica dual atom) : low coonsumption, low noise, reduced size, low price : sort of modern amiga 500

one "pro" board : high specs, upgrade-friendly >sort of modern amiga 3000-4000

What AROS needs is, and to quote an IT genius: "developers developers developers developers!" ;p

Yes I agre, but what it needs is for now to standardise on a board with low cost and high power. Hence the original iMica and the new. Both will sell along side each other. One is low noise and power usage and plays standard HD movies well and the other flies, and guess what we have the drivers.

I do not care if I supply the board, just that we standardise on a good one which I believe the new one is on a price/performance and features for Aros.
