thank you for your answer.
Quote: Its all about balancing objectives exactly! I think dual core atom 1.6ghz is the way to go : quite cheap, and bringing enough power (I saw quite impressive things on acer or asus net top machines). the silent will be a major objective too, especially if I mod a a600case, because the computer will be in the keyboard. I'll see... thanks

It is dificult because you have two completely incompatible objectives.Speed and performance but using quiet low power technology. Personally the standard Atom will do what you want to achieve with a 2.5" drive instead of 3.5" as they tend to be quiter and about the same price. Only snag is that Linux Ubuntu will not run on it, although that is only trying to boot from cd. Exisitng iMica PSU is probably not quiet enough for you, however, the black iMica case is quiter but another ?75 on the price. Its all about balancing objectives, most people like the ?199 price, other want more speed, and now silence too. I will try to figure that into my range. Steve

If I can run linux on a mini itx dualcore board, and aros in dual boot with decent performances, it will be great.
AS I say, I search for silence of use, energy economy (because when I calculate my actual 400watt work computer running 12-15hours 360 days per year, I feel a little afraid...) and compact size (no more tower case). Don't want to play the last 3d game or whatever. I don't ever need a big harddrive, a fast compact flash or 16-32gb ssd will be enough too. NO dvdrom too. ;) Just internet, mail, msn, divx and mp3. No problem on the linux side, and I hope, no problem on aros in a few months. As I say, it's the only thing making me wait to build the machine. Because I really want to have an usable next gen amiga to use for a nettop. And for now, two options are there in my opinion : 1) wait for morphos port on macmini, and buy one macmini; 2) wait for aros improvement on my needs, and build a mini nettop x86 amiga to run it. For now I have to find if mini itx motherboard can fit an amiga600 case... Quote: I am going to build one with the skt775 processor and run Window 7 and Aros through VirtualBox from sun virtual box is powerfull and impressive, especially on dual core pcs. I use it quite often on my work dedicated linux PC to run windows XP pro apps. By the way, what mini ITX motherboard would you advise, in performance + size+ noise +consumption point of view ? atom ? pentium D ? via ?

I do not want to sound like selling here, so it depends on what you need. iMica on the Atom performs well for most things Aros. I like it but like most people I want more power and it is always possible to sayit would be better if faster. I am going to build one with the skt775 processor and run Window 7 and Aros through VirtualBox from sun. This test will be good because Virtualbox has sound and network plus I can run all my dev tools on VS2008 and MSSQL. I will let you know how I get on. If you were near me you could try it, but we tend to be a way apart. As you said you are in no rush so who knows what will happen to Aros in the future. Steve

You missunderstood what I was speaking about ;)
when I speak about weak proc, I spoke about micro boards like that (via 1ghz) : http://cgi.ebay.fr/VIA-EPIA-PX10000G-1GHz-Pico-ITX-Motherboard_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem19b28ed26bQQitemZ110369886827QQptZAUQ5fComponentsQQsalenotsupported I fact, I think the same as you : I think atom dual core 1.6ghz should be good under dual core supported OSes, like windows or linux. My last computer was a athlon 1.6ghz (athlon 2000+) and with correct video card, it was enough for ubuntu 9 too. So I guess, atom based (even in single core) computers are great candidates for net top - media center purpose. See asus or acer atom based nettops r netbooks : they works great. the only fear I've got, in my project of atom based aros box, is the lack of power for aros especially, since it doesn't support hardware acceleration for now.

I am not sure where the week CPU comes in, I know it is not a power house chip but for general use it is great, if you run Windows 7 it flies so it is just the lack of dual core in Aros and the video drivers. The Atom ITX board runs Windows 7 Aero well. I will do a video in the next few days to prove this as people saying Atom is bad performer are being unfair to this great little board. Steve

a little question, concerning the case :
If , in future aros release, I decide to go on a mini itx based x86 amiga, do you think it will be possible to use an amiga 600 case (including keyboard, plugged with Keyrah interface) ? As I said before, I'm not searching for a power beast, but just a good media center nettop. The amiga600 case is for me the perfect candidate for that type of computer use : I could use the side joystick ports to put usb ports, the floppy disk bay, a internal multicard reader, etc... I know a friend how putted a pc in a nintendo super nes case... doing the same with a amiga 600 box would be just so ubber cool... I've seen on ebay some atom 1.6ghz single core slim fanless mini itx mainboards wich seems little enough. Price depending of the graphic chip installed on it. Since Aros doesn't use dual core... if anyone has an amiga 600 and a mini itx mainboard to test it... thank you ! ps : byt the way, it should be very cool too if this type of micro mainboard was compatible with aros : http://cgi.ebay.fr/VIA-EPIA-PX10000G-1GHz-Pico-ITX-Motherboard_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem19b28ed26bQQitemZ110369886827QQptZAUQ5fComponentsQQsalenotsupported Of course, the weak processor is a problem, BUT with correct accelerated aros graphics desktop environement...(as the mainboard can decode video, etc...natively) maybe one day...

thank you for this explainations ! I 'm not hurry, I wait for 2 things : aros improvement (especially graphics drivers, media centers abilities and internet speed) and to be honest, mac mini morphos release demos to make my choice.
But for sure, I'll go on a low power consumption and quiet sound choice. No more big fat and ugly 400watt pc with boring grey tower! I've already have a x2 athlon for work...powerfull, but not economic/ecologic at all (400watt, 8hours per day, 300 days in the year...argl.), noisy (truck powa!) and too hot (in summer, it's really painfull here). I 've no personal use for too much power, since I don't play on computer(only gaming on my real 1200, arcade cab and vintage consoles). Quote: If and when we get native driver upgrade and dual core, the Atom would be IMHO a truly superb low power consumption computer for the Amiga fan. I must agree with that. I can see it on my "fat" ubuntu distro : with hardware accelerated graphic driver, the user experience is flawlessly improved. We can see the same on Morphos and now on os4.1 !
