as you and may others already know, Amithlon is not madeby a single person. Mr. Meyer is the author of many and
large parts of Amithlon, but he do not own Amithlon and
can not decide anything about our product. There are no
plans yet to make it open source or similar licence types.
Please respect this and do not further ask about such as
long the problematic situation about ip has not changed

Get lost, if you think you have any reason at all, leave it to the proper channels instead of handling it on forums or making threats elsewhere.

For the ones not knowing his sad story, he was the one to hinder one of the most remarkable piece of software of recent Amiga History, Amithlon.

He says that after 6 months he'll stop working on the kernel and start developing OS 4 apps. It's my betting he'll clean up the code and release it then.

Unless you really need it and are taking a financial hit, don't cause an argument just because you want to use his software before it's finished / he's satisfied with it. Give him a grace period - we need good developers like this.

EDIT: On re-reading I see you were going to leave it to Harald Frank to fight his own battle. Fair enough.

Chris

It seems fair enough to me, but how long should a fair grace period be?

AFAIK, it is stripped down to the bare essentials needed to get the JIT compiler up and running, and it has hooks into the JIT copiler too.

Bernie and Harald would know more than me.

Hello Nicholas,

there is a problem with Mr. Colville, he do not follow the
GPL under which the Amithlon kernel sources fall. Me and
many many other requested from him the source/changes to
the kernels he made, but as of today he has never given
any sources out to the public.

I still hope that he one day will follow the GPL and stop
his violation so that others can benefit from the work he
spent into this project also.

Best regards,

Harald Frank

Really?

That's interesting. I hope he releases the source soon too.

The FSF (Free Software Foundation) usually handles GPL enforcement procedures.

P.S. My only reservation is that the Amithon kernal is getting on up in age by this point.

There is an up to date Linux kernel for Amithlon by Gary Colville that works on newer mobo chipsets and vga cards.

Site is down at the moment, but here is wayback link
