There is no dragging between applications for the moment, and there is no copy function in Wanderer neither.

This is one I can answer, the only one I can answer.

Drag and Drop / Cut and Paste are not supported "yet."

I do belive that there is a dev already working on this and a host of other Warnderer enhancemetns, so maybe soon.

Which program in there exactly? Test/zune is a directory

Erm, it was Tests/Zune/test. But I did some more fiddling about with it this morning, and in a higher-depth screen mode it seems to work beautifully.

Quote:
Maybe also try this. Reboot and when grub menu appears press C key to go into grub console. There you can enter some commands. "Help" gives a list. Try "vbeprobe" which should give a list of vesa modes which the gfx card supports. What does it say?

vbeprobe listed all sorts of modes up to 1600x1200x8 (packed pixel), 1600x1200x16 (direct color), but depth 32 (direct color) only went up to 1024x768, so yes, I did pick a mode that that computer didn't support.

Picking 1024x768x32 made everything work lovely as can be, well almost:

1. dragging icons between windows in Wanderer doesn't copy them to the new location

2. 'copy "AROS Live CD:Tests" RAM: all' results in an 'object not found' message at the end of the list of files it copied, although all the files seem to have copied fine

3. in Wanderer, dragging an icon off the top of the screen caused great disturbance, resulting in a crash/having to soft-reset and/or hard-reset.

4. Tests/areatest2 worked brilliantly, love the visual highlighting of points to be moved

5. Tests/camdtree - does this mean MIDI is working? If so, woohoo!

6. Tests/cctest did nothing it seems.

7. Tests/date2amiga failed horribly, printing pages and pages of output with no way to stop it!

8. Ctrl-C in consoles sometimes exits the program, but sometimes exits Wanderer instead?

9. NO graphical corruption in GUI elements, now that I was running in a higher-depth. But - would be sensible to have failsafe defaults that work on all depths!

10. Radium - couldn't start it, kept asking for a screenmode, perhaps this was because I was starting it from a readonly CD?

11. Tests/fstest RAM: resulted in a reboot (last message I saw was "Creating directories" then I left the room for 5mins, came back to a freshly booted AROS).

Most of the other stuff worked well, played around with the Demos for a bit, Xaos (zooming fractals) worked well, generally most things worked without a problem. Well done all concerned!

Now all I need is some way to transfer files from AROS to the outside world - either FAT12/16/32 floppy/hd, or internet, or CD burning... EDIT: or USB flash drive support, but they are normally FAT32 I think.

I'll bear that in mind, as I'm going to a GF4 of some sort soon-ish (after my bank account recovers from Christmas ) - fingers crossed it'll just work right off ...

Out of interest would the NVidia drivers work ok on this chaps Riva based card?

No. Btw, OTOH very new cards might work. Like GeForce 6600/6800.

Hmm, it used to work fine when I still had a GeForce2 MX 400. Then I switched to a GeForce FX5700 and had to mess around in the driver code to get it to work. That was back in June. Maybe I broke something. The driver is really Michal's work. He based it in large parts on the XFree86 nv driver sources.

This means VESA did not work. What you got is awful 640x480x16 colors mode. Try a different mode. Maybe also try this. Reboot and when grub menu appears press C key to go into grub console. There you can enter some commands. "Help" gives a list. Try "vbeprobe" which should give a list of vesa modes which the gfx card supports. What does it say?

Quote:
Screenmode prefs - the GUI corrupts when I click the buttons, cycles etc - the old stuff isn't cleared when the new is drawn.

This is because Zune (MUI) is setup to render buttons etc. using gradients. Which only works on hicolor and truecolor screenmodes. On palette screenmodes it produces gfx problems you mentioned.

Now for the benchmarks:

boopsi/domethod 8291596 calls/sec
boopsi/newobj 81964 objs/sec
clib/memset-clear 125724306 bytes/sec
clib/memset-pattern 125727245 bytes/sec

graphics/Move+Text 1140 iter/sec
graphics/WritePixel 136516 iter/sec
graphics/RectFill 5025 iter/sec
graphics/PolyDraw 822 iter/sec

and tests:

test/clib: 3 tests ran, 2 succeded, 1 failed - Test failed in chdir.c line 20
test/desktop/loaddesktop: clears background, clears icons until I (de)select backdrop a couple of times
test/installer: the viewer slows down horribly when scrolling (mouse drag, pointer and scrollbar lag behind mouse movement)
test/Zune: rebooted AROS every time I tried it, the (nice!) GUI displayed, then the mouse pointer froze and it all went dark

applications:

I selected AROS 1280x1024 from the AROS boot menu, but AROS loaded in 640x480 anyway...
Screenmode prefs - the GUI corrupts when I click the buttons, cycles etc - the old stuff isn't cleared when the new is drawn.
wanderer prefs - trying to edit rgb colours led to a reboot
AHI prefs - couldn't get a test sound output no matter how hard I tried fiddling with every setting.

commodities/autopoint,opaque,clicktofront all seemed to work ok, making browsing around much easier, but the sashimi debug window had some corruption (wasn't updated, bits of window border wrongly drawn in the window).

So some problems! But, it brought back lots of happy memories of my A500+, so it was all worth it. Next is to try it on my own PC. And I hope future versions of the ISO image stay below 210MB so that I can burn them on 8cm mini-CDs like I did this one
