I've written small RFC regarding our booting scheme and boot image. You may find it here.
In short: Instead of one monolitic aros kernel which consist of separate modules linked together (linking APL'ed modules with GPL'ed is prohibited in such case) this RFC proposes use of exec.library as a kernel and small read-only filesystem with modules. The modules would be stored as separate ELF files on this filesystem and loaded by exec.library. The proposed approach would allow building customized kernels and mixing modules distributed under all license terms. Opinions? COmments?
