So, after finishing my 4th native install of Icaros/vmwaros over the last week, I think i can consider myself an expert when it comes to these things.. ;)
I have to admit, most things are sorted out in Paolones description in the install manual. I can say, read it really well, and you will have lots of less troubles than I had.
I think, I have a very nice and stable system by now, though I still have some problems with the occasional crash here and there, but I am getting more and more a feeling for what I can do, and what i should avoid in terms of programs.
A few things are still missing from the manual though, and should really be pointed out.
These things happened on my system.. Your mileage may vary...
1) AROS keeps from starting up, when USB Legacy setting are on in the BIOS. take care your BIOS really keeps those settings. I had the case, where my BIOS assigned something different every time, so I had to redo this a couple of times. 2) AROS behaved different on almost every install that I made, although the hardware or the way I installed it didn't change. Very very strange. 3) Using a Soundblaster Live works, but it needs to be on the first slot on the mainboard. Else it won't work. Also, I wasn't able to get something better than something that sounds like 8 Bit 8 KHZ out of it yet. I am happy about it though. Better than nothing.. 4) I had the feeling assigning a higher amount of stack in the startup-sequence made the whole os run smoother, resulting in less crashes. Maybe thats just my feeling though.
That's what i remember right now, I may add some stuff later on, maybe it's of help to somebody.
