It works fine on my Athlon64-3200 laptop, but that is because 32bit software work with no problem at all due to the marvellous engineering that has gone into AMD64. Same way 16bit DOS works on a 32bit CPU.

The problem is changing the AROS code to compile flawlessly as native 64bit code.

Darwin is currently up to date with OSX, i.e., the version available is equivalent to 10.3.6. It supports all Macs that 10.3.6 does, and some PCs as well.

Darwin uses XWindows as it's window manager. As far a PPC Mac support goes, a Darwin/XWindows port of AROS should be the quickest thing to do and still also work in OSX since OSX is just Darwin with a few extra Mac layers on top. One problem has already been discussed on the dev-list - the varargs use in AROS is improper and doesn't work on many platforms. It uses an illegal shortcut that just happens to work on 32-bit x86 and 68K systems. It doesn't work on AMD64, ia64, or PPC systems. There is some discussion right now on how to fix it as it is the main hold up on a PPC version of AROS.

Whats the current status of Darwin? It was an interesting idea, but I don't keep up on the world of Apples ...

It'd be a laugh, anyway

Just a thought... but has anyone tried a Darwin Hosted port of AROS?

That would be... Ironic
