3. Amiga programming reference guides are good for AROS too. You can read some further instructions on the AROS website and you are free to join the developers mailing list and ask what you want.

In response to this one, where can I join the developers mailing list? Thanks in advance.

By the way thank you all for the quick answers.

We have patches for some gcc versions up to 4.2.2 that have
to be applied to gcc sources before you can build it. You
find them in contrib/gnu/gcc. If you want to build toolchain
for x86_64 or powerpc binutils need some patches from
contrib/gnu/binutils.

mausle -> at this very moment I am in the course of compiling gcc from within AROS. GNU today released updated configure scripts to catch aros-native. You can get them here:

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=config.git;a=blob_plain;f=config.guess;hb=HEAD
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=config.git;a=blob_plain;f=config.sub;hb=HEAD

Unfortunately, currently building GCC fails, because make fails with:

There are undefined symbols in 'fixincl'
alarm
fork

How did you (?) prepare current native gcc for AROS?

I would be interested and would use it... But it sounds like an huge project, is it really worth the effort?

This is not an answer but an observation: AROS has the possibility to become the main developing platform for all Amiga OS, thanks to the fact that is free; do the actual AROS compilers toolchain supports also MOS, AOS 3.x and AOS 4.x?

Saimon69

If people really want that, I can try to build all
sorts of gcc cross toolchains. Though, I need to figure
out if its possible to create those compilers on
AROS, which will be easier than cross compiling them
as well.

x86-aros host -> x86_64-aros
x86-aros host -> powerpc-aros

x86-aros host -> OS4
For the others mentioned I would need patches.

XeLeCtRoX, yep, i use YAFS. But there is one more think possible - i am over vmware. So, i can reproduce the slowdowns and so on, but just want to point that maybe vmware can do some issues .. It happenes when i transfer tons of little files. Not big one, but like unpack AROS-Contrib (12 thousand of files), and then upload it to AROS by YAFS. On some stage it's just stack and start to work very slow.

"Like you trasfer over ftp tons of data, and after some time, it's just start works slowly-slowly."

Are you using YAFS for file transfers or FTP client to connect to a remote server? I'm just curious if there are any issues with YAFS that needs to be corrected.

I only can add, that if you want compile somethink for every amiga like os, you can use vbcc (aos3,aos4,mos) and gcc (aros). I am personally use 68k version of VBCC over winaue, to make aos3,aos4 and morphos binaryes. For AROS i switch to the vmware and compile the same by GCC. (only few changes are necessary, like change headers, and some little defines). vbcc with aros support in still in beta-stage, becouse author not in so big motivation to messad up with bloaded and messed aros/gcc headers. But it's not so problematic becouse as i said for gcc changes are little.

What about libs and functions, almost all are the same. You just do: gcc file.c -o file -lamiga -laros -lauto
or kind of. or -ldos. The same as for vbcc in other words. You can check for example my screenshoot: pict
There is a most heavy aos3 fucntions are used, without changes a code (only headers are changes, and few defines, like was GADGETUP, i need to change it on IDCMP_GADGETUP. But i shure it's defined already somethere in includes, just want to point on it :) ).

ps. must add in end, that Aros itself have many thinks which must be done. Like for example you can't do copy+paste from/to 'cli' shell-window. (like for example on any other amiga and amiga like oses). You not have progress bar of shell-window (i.e. you can't scroll data into shell, which very annoing of course). Sometime (for me) system slowdowns. Like you trasfer over ftp tons of data, and after some time, it's just start works slowly-slowly. If (for example) i compile somethink by GCC , exepctually on linking stage, all system looks like slowdonws (i.e. you can't movie a window, and it looks like one task OS at this moment:) ). For example, graphics.library have some unfinished and unsupported parts. (like for example ChangeScreenBuffer, which can help to make DoubleBuffering).

But in others .. it's start to be OS which can be usable.
