A floppy image would be nice too because just imagine if aros could do quite a lot even on just a floppy disk image; people might see it and think "Hey, that must take up a CD or two" but then you tell them it's *one* floppy disk(!). Then if they're hooked you can point them towards a more complete version, i.e. the cd image.
Even right now though aros does quite a fair bit on a disk :) (and the major part: a gui) - most other OSes don't even have a GUI if they're run off a disk! Right now as far as I can tell aros is one of the few OSes that can actually have any sort of GUI off-a-disk; I do not want to "knock" linux (I prefer linux over windows any day of the week! :) ) but any linux bootdisks are text only (and very hard to produce manually too); DOS is command line and the chances of being able to run a modern version of windows on disk are about the same as hell freezing over x.x Prehaps btw something like mozilla or firefox is a bit "too high up the scale" to start off with; what about something more simple like 'dillo' (http://www.dillo.org/) -- though I am guessing even that wouldn't work (dillo uses gtk) ? :) ljones

That's actually how the current one works. Quote:

A nice floppy img would be great for people that have older systems with no cd drive. Like my laptop :)

Nah the ISO's fine
it's just for a first-time user maybe a disk image would be easier as it's a smaller download? If someone downloads an ISO who has never used AROS before they're gonna be at their download if it dies halfway through downloading, but if it's a disk image, they might try it again if the downloading messed up.SP

IMO, we really need a faster filesystem!!! (it is a botleneck for the overall performance)

Well, first we need the TCP/IP driver. When it's ready, we can think about things like this. But i don't see why you need a floppy version of AROS? Is there any problems with the ISO?

One idea I thought of the other day is this - I'm not sure if its possible or really a very good idea though: A Bootable floppy disk containing aros. But instead of the normal downloadable one add a few simple bits 'n' pieces and somehow compress the whole lot and load it into memory.
A While back - a few years ago I think there was a bootable floppy demo of the QNX OS which could connect to the internet via a network, and it had a gui and a simple browser. Might that be one aim for any future AROS bootdisk? :) ljones
