On a bare PC, IDE disks are auto-detected. The bus is scanned on boot and you should be able to follow this process on screen. For using it to boot AROS I suggest you to connect it to the secondary IDE bus, slave (set this mode with the jumpers on CDROM back).

If your PC didn't sniffed this new device, in BIOS try to turn each IDE device on "auto" mode, thus allowing auto-detection for next boot.

I don't think a SCSI -> IDE bridge has ever been made, maybe the best place to start would be to just get a 2nd hand IDE CDRom (& cable!), that way you could at least try it out. They go on ebay regularly for under £5.

For a harddisk an old 1Gb one would be enough to install AROS to try it out on. If you have space on your SCSI harddisk you could run Linux and try out the hosted version, without buying anything ...

I think it would cost more than noname CDROM and harddisk.

SCSI would be a really good project for a driver, true, but as said, network or USB urge more.

ok, that makes sense - I deal with about 40 different typres of servers at work, almost all have SCSI, but don't use it for the CD Rom ...

JLF - You might not have it, but my Amigas got SCSI out the wazoo

Why? On supported native systems, SCSI is rare. It's all IDE/ATA on these machines. All work has been on improving the ata.device. Even my Amigas are IDE (A1200/A4000D).

I have an AH2940UW SCSI card I could put in a machine to work on, but it's not as high a priority as things like USB or networking.

There is no SCSI support in AROS now.

Your drive can boot (through BIOS) but after that, AROS has no way to read the drive more.
