Instead of doing that, I'm sure Kalamatee wouldn't mind a helping hand with lwip (think that's pretty much done) and associated bridging software.

I wasn't sure how far along that was. I know there is some code in the drawer, but how good a shape is that code?

When updated to its actual version (1.0), LwIP compiles and run, as a bsdsocket.library. It lacks of binding between the stack itself and interfaces with AROS or hardware.
First thing lacking are proper TCP include headers, to compile tools before having functional ethernet or ppp drivers.
Yes, a wrapper à la UAE-bsdsocket is needed for networking through the Linux host, and it has to be compatible with LwIP-bsdsocket too.

Guess I should look it over and see how far he's gotten. It might be better to just help him finish. However, if the code is a real mess, it's faster to work from the bsdsocket.library shim for hosted mode.

Well, I did pull the bsdsocket.library out of the Linux/BSD version of UAE today. I'm looking it over to see how much work it is to make it work with the hosted version of AROS. Theoretically speaking, that should be the fastest way to get some kind of networking in AROS.

Native is a lot of work. It'll have to wait for someone who wants the bounty and can handle that kind of device level programming.

Hello

I have a suggestion for the AROS developers, but before I make it, I want to say that I mean no disrespect. I like very much what you have done thus far and I hope AROS can become my only OS some day.

I think that now is a good time to lay down whatever you are working on (with AROS) and join your effords to develop the networking support that AROS so desperately needs.

I think that this is what AROS needs right now more than anything else. I also think that it would convince some developers to join the team and maybe it could convince some of the people and companies that develope Amiga programs to port their apps to AROS (for example AWeb, Ibrowse, YAM etc etc). What I'm saying is, that I don't think people will ever take AROS seriously without networking capabilities. After all it's 2004 now and many people in the west have broad band connections.

So to the developers: What is your opinion on this matter? Don't you think it would be good for AROS if you all joined in to develop this one thing in stead of waiting for someone with the rigth skills to discover the bounty?

/Peter
