So, what exactly is preventing this from happening? No devlopers to do it? No agreement from the devs on how to do it? What? Do we need a new bounty??

Thats why i wanted to implement oe aswell, but its not just the window borders that look outdated. "Amiga" style GUIS on the whole look outdated - and very un intuitive unlike the library name would suggest ;P Thats kind of why i think we should be pushing Zune as the defacto GUI for AROS.

I haven't looked at how Intuition draws the window frame, but it seems to me that the Intuition rendering could be segregated into a module that could be selectable. For example, make all Intuition window draws a set of library functions; then make Intuition open the library based on a set preference (the theme preference). Themes would then just be libraries which did specific drawing commands at the request of Intuition to make the windows. Since it's all open source, new themes should be relatively simple to make - just take an existing theme and change whatever drawing routines and/or data you need to make your theme, then recompile with a new name.
That's not as good as making Intuition read an xml file for window drawing, but it's quicker and easier to implement. The first theme library would simply be the code Intuition currently uses to draw windows. I might look into this a little more. Suggestions towards naming: The "standard" theme would be something like "classicaos.theme". If someone made a Windows XP them, it could be named like "windowsxp.theme". A RedHat Linux theme could be "bluecurve.theme". You get the idea. The theme preference could just scan libs: for .theme to list available themes. One of the functions would be a more thorough description the preference could display for the user, along with a sample image. If you wanted to be more sophisticated, the library could also have a function that took a particular or general name for some component and returned an image for use in creating default icons. For example, if you passed in a general name like "*.library" it would return an image suitable for a generic library. If you passed in a specific name like "AHI.device" it would pass back an image specific to AHI if it was available in this theme; if AHI wasn't in this theme, it would fall back to the more generic "*.device" image automatically.

Getting it going would be great. It is just my personal opinion that much of the system "looks" outdated. We have PNG icons..etc... but the same old window borders. I know it isn't importand in the grad design, but it would be nice.

well kind of ...
there where a number of issues that halted my development a bit =/ first - Theme-Aware apps = Zune Apps - the basic border theme'ing system had relied on zune to render the interface - i didnt see any point using 2 engines to achieve the same result. Because of this i reached a few stumbling blocks that i never got round to trying to resolve - maybe they cant without a complete redsign of zune =/ Anyhows the rendering side worked great, and i had the sizeing etc working also - but the window contents kept inheriting the theme so things looked a bit nasty =/ My plan was to make it work first through zune, then make intuition use the zune created "borders" instead of its own - so that it would also eventually support the same themes. it would be great to get something going again though - the borders looked much nicer imo =)
