A very nice "Thank you" goes out to Emmanuel L for donating $100 to the Mk2 Installer bounty.

Is there allready a bounty for partition.library? Or do you mean the installer mk2 bounty?

Although not directly mentioned in the Mk2 Installer Bounty, it has to be rewritten in order to achieve the objectives of the bounty itself. Sort of going from round about way to more direct "this has to go" defining of objectives.

That's my entire objective, to make installs as painless (as you've probably read my posts as well as Dfergalt's of hellish installs) as humanly possible. I really, and I do mean REALLY, like to my AROS box working.

If its about hdinstall bounty (which is where my money is):

Ok, if the developers says partition.lib rewrite is needed for the install process to work, then do it.

As long its for the cause of a better installer, feel free to use my donation however you want.

oh, so a big rewrite is in order...sounds painful.

One more quesiton...

Is there a dev that is willing to take on the partition.library if it is seperated from the rest? Or, is it still "up in the air?"

Partition.library is rather dated - it was written in a time when drives were small and all you had was a linux partition, a swap partition, and the AROS partition. It has some really bad limitations, like relying solely on cylinder/head/sector info in an age where that is obsolete, or not supporting logical partitions (only primary partitions are handled), and there have been numerous fixes for 64bit math issues (BIG drives), some of them by me. It really needs a rewrite.

Partition.library, AFAIK, does need a full rewrite. This maybe causing hdtoolbox not to function properly.

It sounds good to me, Dammy.

What is up with the partition.library? I don't know much about these things, but that sounds like it could be a real big/difficult project. Does the one we have need to be completly rewritten?

Since we are stuck waiting for a new parition.library, I'm proposing we split up this bounty into smaller chunks:

1. Rewrite partition.library.

2. Volume Manager and rewrite HDToolBox (or have HDToolBox as a seperate phase by itself).

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this) the actual application that copies code over is working properly.

I'd suggest $500 for the partition.library rewrite and $250 for the Volume Manager and HDToolBox rewrite.
